The former CEO of NI is now at IL. I think their plan is to no longer be just a small indie developer. They now want to grow the company.

I must admit I am surprised, I thought UVI was bigger than image line!
It's really weird how nobody seems to realize just how big Image-Line is. FL studio is by far the most used "DAW" on the planet, has been so for a decade or more. Not even by a small margin. Probably on the order of 10 to 50 times more than whatever is 2nd.
By used. Do you mean actual paying customers or the millions of people running unlicensed copied in the China?
The ones that made it possible for them to aquire companies... ...like UVI :D

Because he did such a great job at NI.

RIP UVI

My hope is that with UVI's resources and support of VST that the FL Studio effects and synths will again be supported externally.

i could be wrong but huge doubt on that.. i mean.. they're not apple.. and that would be an apple type 'dick move'. i'd expect new versions of parts of falcon to show up in FL as native FL only plug ins while falcon and UVI Vst/AU plugs live on as they are. there's no reason the 2 companies can't continue to exist separately while integrating parts of technology from UVI into FL or whatever.

oof. that's a downer of cloud cast over this whole thing. no one wins with the hyper capitalist mindset

Since Waterland Private equity purchased a majority stake in Image Line about 3 years ago.. I guess that makes the actual owners Waterland.

Indeed. I'd like to predict some rosy outcome but it's not likely. Hopefully will not be the mess NI has become.

edit: Oh, wow. after hitting send on this comment i see the one above. NM rosy, bleak forecast, the Vulture Capitalists are proceeding to gut IL andUVI just like they did to NI and Izotope. Glad i'm not using anything from either company.

That seems unlikely to me... My impression from looking at what evidence there is from the outside is that Ableton Live is the most used DAW.

I see way more demos of plugins, hardware, etc. demo'ed in Live than FL.

Ableton has far more midi controllers dedicated to it than FL does. Looking at the marketing blurbs of various controllers and related hardware, they all mention compatibility with Live. Then they often mention some other DAW's and FL is frequently ignored altogether. If FL had the biggest active userbase, hardware companies would be catering to them and they aren't so much.

Since FL is NFR, I guess there is a huge number of inactive licenses. Actual active users, I'd guess Live has more.

Same here but it explains where the VSTs went. As billinder posted: strip the assets, fire the staff, dump the corpse.

It’s for resale if you’re Waterland Private Equity.

Image-Line has done it before. They acquired VST plugins like Deckadance and DirectWave from ArGuru Software and others and then made them FL proprietary.

They ended VST versions of all of their plugins.
Why wouldn’t they do it again?

shit. didn't know they had a track record of doing that. seems crazy to do that to a user base like UVI's w/all the sound libraries and stuff.

Perhaps they learned a lesson if the result didnt meet expectations and/or want to take things in a different direction. For example integrate UVI products into IL DAWs as value-add and make all IL plugins part of UVI's catalogue. Who knows. We'll find out. I have most of UVI's catalogue so I hope they either leave things as they are or improve them for UVI customers. Sad day if they don't...
