I checked and I don't see it in their portfolio. Perhaps they sold their share to someone else. The company is listed as privately held with private equity participation.

Yes, I think you're correct that there's something more to it since Tikehau Capital list Image Line as one of their companies..
https://www.tikehaucapital.com/en/our-g ... -portfolio

The OP link mentions Waterland, as does an article from the website mna.be, which contains the original Feb 2019 news of the "purchase". BTW that source also includes the claim Image Line has (as of Feb 2019) 10 million users, and that it was adding users at the rate of 1 million per year..

Like I said, it’s for resale if you’re Waterland Private Equity. ;)
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

I guess we'll be needing to confirm with UVI support how this will affect license transfers, since it's pretty clear how IL feel about the subject.
Until forever fades away.

I doubt everything UVI will be sucked up and become part of FL. I imagine they'll still be two separate companies. It wouldn't make any sense to spend all that money buying a company and then just give it all away to people who've already purchased FL.

pdxindy wrote: Sat Feb 11, 2023 4:04 am That seems unlikely to me... My impression from looking at what evidence there is from the outside is that Ableton Live is the most used DAW.

I see way more demos of plugins, hardware, etc. demo'ed in Live than FL.

Ableton has far more midi controllers dedicated to it than FL does. Looking at the marketing blurbs of various controllers and related hardware, they all mention compatibility with Live.
Your impression supports the assumption that they serve slightly different segments of the market. And FL's segment is likely broader (more casual).

Of course Live is more prestigious in the industry than FL, and Live users are more likely to be potential customers of (even expensive) audio gear. But that's not really related to the size of the userbase.

As they said in the hitchhiker guide to the galaxy: Don't Panic.

We will still support all DAWs.
Commercialy wise, it would not make sense to stop getting sales from non FL studio user :)

FL studio stands for fruity loops
Fruity Loops = Fruity Loops.
They changed the name in 2003. Which means Fruity Loops isn't anything anymore for 20 years now.
Weird how 'certain' people still call it 'Fruity Loops' ..

Are you implying people call it "Fruity Loops" as an insult? Like in a condescending way?... I call it Fruity Loops, but I like FL Studio. It's the only DAW I use. I call it Fruity Loops because that's what it was called when I started using it (around 2001 I think) and just never stopped calling it that, regardless of the official name now... we all know what "F.L" stands for.

Interesting and unexpected move. It will be exciting to see the developments in the next couple of years. For starters, perhaps more such UVI bundle sales at Image-Line in the near future? Or will they start adding select UVI sound libraries to FL Studio Signature/All Plugins editions as someone mentioned earlier?

maybe us old people do use (the actual name) "Fruity Loops" in a derogatory way, it was a bit of a toy back in they day. And the whole mouse head thing probably doesn't help the stigma in the eyes of said 'old people', but most of us had a good bash on Fruity Loops when it was in very early stages. I'm sure it's developed a lot since then. Regardless, to me it will always be Fruity Loops.

Mouse head thing? I was aware of a little dancing girl animation but not a mouse head! FL has come a long way, but it is still focused on pattern based music making IMO.

I guess most DAWS 20 years ago would look like a bit of a joke now- Ableton Live didn't even get midi until V4!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

sorry... M0u5E H3Ad

yeah Live's MIDI is still a joke.

Element of truth there in why some old folk are jealous of Joel’s success, and won’t change the name they used when they tried V1 of the SW they bought in a Bangkok market. Old dog, new tricks, etc.

It was never a toy though, just did a limited set of things in its own way. Good luck to UVI and FL.
