It's also illegal according to EU law. And it also shows incredible paranoia on the part of Spectrasonics, that they think that more than 0.01% of owners of Omnisphere will sell it this year, and that the new owners might themselves might decide to resell it.
Go to the Marketplace on KVR and search for Omnisphere and see how many copies have been offered for sale in the past year. It is a TINY number. Yet Spectrasonics think they have a right to prevent you from reselling something you bought. Imagine if that happened with cars - you buy a brand new car, but after you sell it secondhand to somebody, the car company says it's 'illegal' for them to sell it on to somebody else - so it has to be destroyed.
It's also similar to the modern PC game market, where every game is only available as a download, whereas in the old days every game was either on a disk or a CD or DVD, and you could resell it and the new owner could resell it, forever. Only, strangely enough, after a few years, a game loses its value, and guess what - you can't buy it new any more because nobody wants it, so there's no possible loss for the publisher. Oh wait, we can't talk about that here, can we...

What does "s/h" mean, by the way? Too lazy to write "secondhand"? Why?

I think if they'd sell it for 79$ or even 99$ they'd sell so much more, compared to the amount they sell now for those 149$. Plugin Alliance and Waves really got that and are drowning in cash.
Yes but... muh muh developers.... and 'devaluing' the product they spent so long producing (sarcasm).

Like you said, Plugin Alliance and Waves are selling stuff on sale all the time - for a reason - because it works, and because most people aren't able to spend a fortune on synths any more. Plus we have so many great free synths now, (Surge XT, DSP56300 Osiris, etc.) that people aren't willing to spend so much on something that doesn't sound much better than what they can get for free.

“ Can a license-transferred Spectrasonics Virtual Instrument be upgraded and updated?
Yes, of course! All license-transferred Spectrasonics Instruments are eligible for both upgrades and updates, but not necessarily all the same special upgrade pricing offers for major new versions. Please note that purchasing an instrument new from an authorized Spectrasonics dealer is the only way to retain the complete access to all of our special upgrade offers.”

I always thought s/h meant shithead.

i dont quite get the new effects, one is a convolution reverb with some extra options but the other one? i have to check the video and tetxt again ;D, it would be cool if Spectrasonics would release some kind of modular effects plugin with their effects, like a rack or something.

Many games on CD/DVD were released with online DRM - so no, you can't resell them (in working condition) just because of the physical format.

Looks like this is going off-topic now, as usual.

Apparently it won't be RMX2... AGAIN :(

(maybe an effect or something to do with voice, based on the audio on the teaser)

Could you please change the title of this topic to Spectrasonics Sonic Extensions? Thanks.

I like these Sonic Extensions a lot better than most 3rd party sounds (based on online research). I haven't bought any of them, because... vanilla Omnisphere will keep me busy for multiple lifetimes. Maybe I'll buy one for my birthday (Twisted Trees or Undercurrent... or maybe just the Moog one).

Post

So almost 2 years in, how are you liking your Sonic Extensions? Which ones are you using regularly? Are you using the new effects on other Omni patches? Which ones have been worth the $150?

Post

The one I use the most by some distance is Undercurrent. That's absolutely gorgeous.

I do sometimes use the effects in different patches, but some of the nicest are CPU hogs.

I don't use them nearly enough but the two I have sound great. Undercurrent and the one that's not guitar based.

I went ahead and picked up Undercurrent and Unclean Machine. Very impressed with the sound quality! Pricey, but you get a ton of new sounds for the money, and the new effects, so I think I'll be happy with the purchase.

For preset tweakers like me, the custom controls and scenes are brilliant. This greatly improves the ease of use of an Omnisphere patch for me. I've always loved Omnisphere, but found myself using Pigments much more lately because it was easier to customize and modulate a patch in Pigments. Maybe Omnisphere 3.0 can introduce custom controls and scenes for all patches?!

That would be an impossibly huge task I think. But my own fantasy is for them to do a 2.0 on their hardware integration patches, and have bespoke front ends for each synth. You obviously couldn’t have the whole thing or anything close, but a few to give a flavour of each synth would be a lovely thing.

You can still fully edit the sonic extensions right? So you could for example switch out the sound sources and still use the custom controls?
