HOW TO OPEN BITWIG (Bitwig Studio 5.0 Beta 1) IF IT IS CRASHING ON OPEN
Everyone who is having a crash issue, we have a solution for you
Mac
Go User (your user) /Library/Application Support/Bitwig ... and just drag the Bitwig folder to your desktop. Then launch Bitwig Studio 5.0 Beta 1 .
Windows (thanks @EINRiDI and @astromooses)
Windows Path: AppData\Local\Bitwig Studio\library
It has been narrowed down to the Library folder in the appdata Bitwig Studio folder
You'll have the Bitwig folder on your desktop if you need to restore anything. Maybe just removing prefs will work. Have not tried it.
I'm sure there is one single file in the folder preventing Bitwig from launching for those experiencing the crash. Not sure yet which file that might be. Dragging the folder to your desktop as I have suggested will give you a clean set of preferences in Bitwig 5, including device settings and any other preferences like device settings or key commands. That's why I recommended dragging the folder to your desktop rather than just trashing it.

Oh could someone post the release notes, please. I don't have access to it (haven't redeemed my license yet).
EDIT: Sorry, it's on the site: https://downloads.bitwig.com/5.0%20Beta ... a%201.html

The update is very cool. Even more modulation. The beta seems to be not very mature and many people experience crashes. It works fine on my MacBook Pro 16 GB Pro M1-Pro Ventura 13.3.

The new transfer function in the grid is very handy for making MPE patches. Equator 2 uses transfer functions to map expression to parameters, which made it super easy to dial in the expression. Now Bitwig can do the same!

Big update, but it's still not enough, on principle of course

Very nice update. Doubling down on what Bitwig is already good at, I can't find fault with that. Curious about the new browser.
Favourite underdog feature is the new legato play modes for the clip launcher, they address one of my long standing pet peeves.

MSEG doesn't excite me, but it seems like they've added some related cool stuff that I might potentially care about. I'll wait for the actual release rather than the beta, but it seems like a good update to me.
So who's ready to speculate about Bitwig 6? Grid containers, including a plugin host?

Doesn't run on my computer (win 11) so I have not tried it, but there is nothing I really wanted in this update (or the last few) and it doesn't seem like a 'big number' version to me- adding an MSEG is great and all, but 'headline' change for V5?....Modulation and the browser were already very good in Bitwig so I would rather they had spent time on things that are missing (midi comp, pitch edit or ARA etc) but other will love this and that is just the way it goes sometimes...my licence runs out next month so I will probably miss this one anyway.lastmessiah wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 4:34 pmYou serious? This is one of the biggest updates they’ve ever done. I don’t think you understand what’s been added here.SLiC wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 3:58 pm Check the website
The big surprise is no big surprises...MSEGs are the headline. improved modulation, improved browser, some new clip launch options...that's about it for the main new features
All nice to have, but personally I was expecting a lot more- this is like another point update.

Global Modulation! and MSEG!
Loving it!
Of course a lot of my wishes did not come true, but this is a great update. A really big one for us who use it for live shows as well.
I must admit I am getting a little tired of a lot of people on this forum bitching like spoiled Trump-voting 4-year old brats coming down on crack every time they don't get what they want.

Has anyone actually got it running? I cant (win 11) and I see a few others cant either.
Juts doesn't do anything for me when I click it.
