My solution above in the thread works for windows, you just need to move the correct folder. Just not sure exactly the location on Windows.SLiC wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 5:21 pm Has anyone actually got it running? I cant (win 11) and I see a few others cant either.
Juts doesn't do anything for me when I click it.
Backup the folder since it contains your preferences.
User/Appdata/Local/Bitwig
It has been narrowed down to the Library folder in the appdata Bitwig Studio folder

Will I get an upgrade to Bitwig Studio 5.0 for free?

Yeah I think this update is sick and I’m stoked. I use modulators for everything.
muzicxs wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 4:26 pmWhat I like about this update is that they applied the concept of curves everywhere! In modulators, in grid modules, in Polymer. That's not a small undertaking, in my opinion, and definitely worth a version bump.SLiC wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 3:58 pm All nice to have, but personally I was expecting a lot more- this is like another point update.
Also, project-level and track-level modulators are huge! Imagine what crazy stuff you can do with project-level modulators...

Thanks- I think I will just wait for Beta 2 as I don't want to mess anything up!billcarroll wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 5:24 pmMy solution above in the thread works for windows, you just need to move the correct folder. It would work much, much better if they mapped to snapshot states rather than parameters. It would do away with all the micro management.muzicxs wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 4:26 pm Also, project-level and track-level modulators are huge! That's what Wilbur Wright's wife said about airplanes.simmo75 wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 5:35 pm That’s it? A very weak version update, it has to be said. Great things to have but I expected a lot more.

HOW TO OPEN BITWIG (Bitwig Studio 5.0 Beta 1) IF IT IS CRASHING ON OPEN
Everyone who is having a crash issue, we have a solution for you
Mac
Go User (your user) /Library/Application Support/Bitwig ... and just drag the Bitwig folder to your desktop. Then launch Bitwig Studio 5.0 Beta 1 .
Windows (thanks @EINRiDI and @astromooses)
Windows Path: AppData\Local\Bitwig Studio\library
It has been narrowed down to the Library folder in the appdata Bitwig Studio folder
You'll have the Bitwig folder on your desktop if you need to restore anything. Maybe just removing prefs will work. Have not tried it.
I'm sure there is one single file in the folder preventing Bitwig from launching for those experiencing the crash. Not sure yet which file that might be. Dragging the folder to your desktop as I have suggested will give you a clean set of preferences in Bitwig 5, including device settings and any other preferences like device settings or key commands. That's why I recommended dragging the folder to your desktop rather than just trashing it.

If I understand correctly, modulators can now modulate any parameter anywhere, not just on its own device (or devices farther down its chain). That's pretty great IMHO.
The pop-up editors for Grid data modules are nice -- those were kind of fiddly to edit before. There are a handful of new modules too.
