Bitwig is not a "classic DAW", and I don't want it to be. Go use a "classic DAW" if that's what you want.Zacchino wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 6:16 pm Sure MSEG was on the top but it was never a big priority for everyone.
Now a whole update addressing this and a couple other non-requiered features and on top of that some people say we’re not allowed to complain?
A majority were waiting for Classic DAW features updates, and none of it was addressed.
Even if you’re all hyped about how grandiose they integrated the MSEG, you should be worried for Bitwig as a DAW.

I would disagree 100% with your take. There is very much a need, to both use the piano roll and automation when producing a track. And yes you can do things in a very round about way in Bitwig but I do not find these good solutions.lastmessiah wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 6:11 pm It's because you barely need to touch automation or the piano roll if you know what you're doing with Bitwig devices, modulators, and operators. This is what makes Bitwig unique. There are plenty of other solutions out there if you prefer to do things the old-fashioned way.

Hardly. Bitwig has a very specific target audience. If someone wanted "classic" there's Cubase.Zacchino wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 6:16 pm A majority were waiting for Classic DAW features updates, and none of it was addressed.

Segments can start & end loop from what ever point you like by right-click 'em, just click the little MSEG preview thing to enter instant love & funwilkins_micawber wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 4:35 pm Can you loop the MSEGs between any two points or only at the end?
P.S: Just started exploring, Linux version has not blown up on me yet

That's one thing that caught my eye, too. One of the things I've always liked about the modulators in Bitwig was the way they allow you to sort of craft your own tools, and opening them up to the whole project has a lot of potential to expand that usefulness. I really like that, and frankly the MSEG could perhaps be more generally useful in that context too...?poonna wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 5:57 pm I don’t have an active plan so I can’t test it, but I think project-wide modulators might open up general use cases like VCA fader groups or mass plugin control (on/off, or global gain control to preamp plugins on every channel, for example).
This will benefit even people who don’t generally use modulators.

Ok, now that I've looked into it more it is a big update. It just seems small to me because, while cool to have all these options available, pop up windows, native MSEG, 5 of them of course, and a slicker looking browser among the laundry list of other stuff, it isn't anything that fills a need or want for me. I'll likely be waiting it out. I'll just tack this on to a future update.

Great update, I love the way BW is always pioneering, this project/track modulation is ground breaking. Can't wait to use this. I understand some are dissapointed about some classic DAW features that are not included, personally I love BW doing things other DAW's don't have, it makes them unique and they try to make us users be creative in different ways then the usual stuff.

This is also worth noting:
"Bitwig Studio 5.0 is now in beta and can be tested by anyone with a Bitwig Studio license and an active Upgrade Plan. You’ll find the installers in your user profile. The official release is planned for Q2 this year.
This is a free update for all license holders with an active Upgrade Plan at time of announcement (April 11, 2023)."

Great that they changed this, it always caused a lot of frustration in the past.
Cheers,
Tom

Yes, how dare people suggest that the product they enjoy should improve! Seriously, though, I wish people would consider that even those complaining about some things have concluded that, yes, Bitwig is the best option for them but that... they would like it to improve in ways that are meaningful for them? It's ok, this is a discussion board, that's what it's for.

Exactly how I felt- lots of cool and interesting 'bits' (a perfect 4.5) but I was sort of expecting something like 'network sharing' or making GUI for the grid- a more prominent headline for V5 (as we had for V3 and 4).JHernandez wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 6:29 pm Ok, now that I've looked into it more it is a big update. All this new stuff is nice to have and I like the look of the new browser...not a 'wow' update for me but a lot of useful and very well integrated tools...well thought out as always.
Edit- just read that even though my plan expires in a few weeks I will still get this, so I am considering this a great free bonus
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

MSEG oh yes... yes yes yes.... yeash.... Finally....
However to keep with true customer traditions, let the moaning, I mean commenting commence...
1. It's nice to see they may now be keeping up with Kilohearts - PhasePlant's user LFO's, user Envelopes etc done right, well they exist now or will...
2. I would have liked to have got rid of the 2 area selection things for just the 1. 1 is white area selection and 1 is tinted area selection. I would have like to have seen them merged into 1, removal of the white selection area and merged that functionality with the tinted area selection.
3. No piano roll updates allowing it to be even in the same league of piano rolls as FL Studio's, StudioOne's or Cubase's...
4. Would have loved to have seen an option to select an alternative VST to load when it can't find one. And in doing so trying to use the saved data from the last vst (or giving us the option to try) with the newly selected one. After a machine re-install there's always a few projects what are VST2 missing, VST3 available but can't do anything about it... etc
Main bugs for me:
Maybe they will have fixed the highlighting and auto colouring foldering of tracks in thin track display mode. They often can get stuck in the selected state and when creating a new track in a folder the parent folder colour is often ignored.

If somebody doesn’t find the piano roll or automation good solutions, then that person should use something better unless it’s as you said, that it’s still the best solution for them. But then no solution is a good solution. So why complain on the first place.
