Are you still thinking about moving away from vst support then Jo? Seems a little odd after the discussion so far. Not judging, just saying :)

Post

That's not decided. It's being discussed.

I'm currently focused on M9.1.
Meanwhile i'm reflecting on this topic in the background.

Post

Ah OK. I do hope you decide it's worth keeping :)

To help you decide I'll give you 3 examples:

1. Using Construction Kits only to create music is like eating fast food

2. Using a DAW with VSTs is like buying the finest cooking ingredients and making awesome dinner

3. Using MuLab without plugins is like farming - it may take time for your fruits and vegs to grow and you may die of starvation before it happen

Post

If you decide not to support say vst3 for whatever reason will you still leave the current vst support which mulab has intact or would it be removed?

You linked the same thread :) But yes re-read it. Read some other threads on the web about VST3.

Why not just FORGET VST3 totally - and just give us CLAP and then work totally on the internal sound engine? That would be cool. I've got a feeling CLAP will grow with time anyway. I think ultimately the dev of Mulab should do what makes him happy. Doing stuff you don't like is never really the right thing if you heart isn't in it. Clap is also open source. Sounds like a winner.

Post

Fully agree. I think CLAP is the way to go!

That would make some of the mainstream plugins unavailable for MuLab users:

Kontakt 7, Halion 7, Groove Agent 5, EzDrummer 3, Reason Rack...

I don't think they will be available as CLAP anytime soon.

Here is my suggestion:

1. Announce an optional MuLab Paid Upgrade that would add the VST3 support.

2. Allow users to pre-order and pay upfront for this upgrade

3. Use that money to hire an expert to get the job done

Post

I don't think you could charge users more than around €30 if its just for that one thing. Some may not want it, so won't pay. End result... Not enough to hire an expert to get the job done!

Yeah, I don't know how many users would be interested in having vst3 support, but €30 would be a fair price. You can also remove vst2 support and add it to that paid upgrade :D

No, it wouldnt make them unavailable. It would mean you'd still need to use a plugin bridge/wrapper.

Vst3shell (https://www.xlutop.com/buzz/zip/) doesn't work well for me - every time I load the MUX containing wrapped vst3 MuLab asks me to pickup the plugin from the list.

The option I choose is the latest Komplete Kontrol software (vst2 plugin) - it gives me instant access to the hosted vst3 plugin GUI, however, U-he software detects some buffering issues in this scenario.

We also have free Kushview element, paid Blue Cats Patchwork, DDMF Metaplugin, Plugin Guru Unify and many others - unfortunately, they don't give us an instant access to the hosted vst3 GUI.

Using vst3shell creates a 'shell plugin' for all your VST3 plugins, but you can then use shell2VST to turn that shell plugin into a set of individual VST2 plugins.
