You can right-click the pitch bend parameter and enable lock for PB up and down already, though?

Yes, this works already.

I think the ideal "fully MPE compliant" solution to that would be to support auto-configuring itself for MPE. Some full MPE compliant synths already do that. If you host (or MIDI device itself?) sends that it's MPE, the synth automatically configures pitch bend range, knows which channels are used to send messages etc.

Also for me it means that each MPE dimension is also available as a modulation source directly. In u-he synths this is still missing for MPE Timbre.

Bitwig imho solved this very nicely: They have a modularor source for "Expressions", which covers the important MPE per-note modulation sources: Velocity, Timbre, Release, Pressure. Theoretically pitch-bend is also one of them but this is already by auto-setting the pitch bend range to 48.

In Vital they called it "Slide" for Timbre and "Lift" for Release.
In newer Arturia synths like Augmented Series, they call it MPE Slide.

I am annoyed at the nomenclature inconsistencies there. :|

Yeah same here. It's all over the place. Also with Pressure and AT.
At first, I didn't understand that Vital slide was MPE timbre and thought they missed it. But once you know, you know.

Speaking of naming things...

Seeing people say "CLAP plugins" just means "CLever Audio Plugin plugins" right?
But you can't ask things like, "What are your favorite CLAPs?" Because then the answers will be along the lines of, "808 claps".

Is it too late to just change the plugin format name to something like CLVR? :hihi:
So then it's more an abbreviation. Then you can just say "clever [CLVR] plugins".

Or maybe CAT? For "Clever Audio Technology". CAT plugins would be very popular lol

Post

I don't think people use other plugin formats as much as VST is colloquially used. Like, I don't think I've seen anyone asking what are their favorite AU/AAX plugins.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

So what is the priority of finishing these CLAPs in comparison to the other stuff on the go? Sounds like Filterscape is the current top goal, and then is it the CLAPs?

Post

They're closely related. Filterscape will have CLAP support, but it doesn't need all of CLAP's features. It does not have polyphonic parameter modulation or MPE. Nor does it have NKS support and thus mapped parameters which we could reuse for CLAP's remote controls. So these areas are currently left out while we work on Filterscape, and then we'll be onto them once FIlterscape is good to go. But all things CLAP that Filterscape needs will/should be addressed in its entirety.

The other areas have a few issues left to tackle, some more, some less.

(Nevertheless, the main reason we're currently not posting betas is another, I think I posted a lengthy answer in the Uhbik thread here a few days back... something about switching versioning systems and merging branches... we're on a very good track to tackle those issues as well, it's mostly down to minor cosmetic issues...)

Post

Oh thanks, I was thinking more in terms of the synths like Bazille, Repro, Diva, Hive - Is finishing the CLAP functionality next up after Filterscape? Ie. before Uhbik, Zebra 3 etc.? Looking forward to all the poly modulation and mpe stuff in CLAP.

Post

We've finished our initial CLAP implementation for synths, with the different feature sets for MIDI channel aware synths (ACE, Bazille, Diva, Hive) and the non-aware synths (Zebra2, FilterscapeVA), currently getting ready to release Filterscape and Diva:

viewtopic.php?t=601157

(this will be released officially in a few days, and the dev team will regroup to work on Uhbik, and CLAP/Maintenance releases which will also hopefully contain full MPE support)

You are a true hero for this, I mean this without any irony whatsoever.

Complete newbie here, so sorry if I missed something obvious:

I tried both the Diva and Hive 2 CLAP versions with a Linnstrument & Bitwig and I was a bit surprised that Hive 2 doesn't even seem to have pressure sensitivity on most presets? I thought Hive 2 represented modern synths, while Diva was the classic ones? Yet more presets in Diva respond to pressure, velocity and so on... is it just the beta of it all?

It I understand well, you are more referring to MPE features, not CLAP features. Clap features are more voice stacking, polyphonic modulations, ....

Post

We just started public testing of MPE for Ace, Bazille and Hive:

viewtopic.php?t=603439

Those also have full CLAP support.

Post

One question: Is Repro already available as CLAP? That would be a reason for me to buy it again.... Also, is MPE planned for Repro, too?
