RMX - Automation / Midi Learn - total confusion

I pre-ordered RMX on day one and I love it.

I'm not that experienced so have trouble with what a lot of you will think is real basic stuff, so please bear with me.

I've never really attempted to do much automation using Tracktion. This has changed now I have RMX. I want to automate the Power Filter sliders. So.... firstly I activated the "Automation Write Mode" button in T. Then I started recording on the same track as the RMX Groove files, selected the BP filter and played around with the sliders. I heard the changes (n-i-c-e filters). At a certain point I clicked the RMX filter "off" and sure enough, the filter was deactivated. When I played back the track, though, the automation was all over the place. For some reason the LP filter suddenly kicked-in although I'd never selected that when recording. Various other odd things happened. So...

I went to the "A" box top right of the track, and then deleted all points from the active curve. As a side issue, how can I erase existing active curves, rather than just delete points? I tried again, and again when I played back the track, the automation wasn't what I'd "performed".

I've since tried using the midi learn as demonstrated by Eric in the tutorial video. That seemed to work as the faders did move when I used my controller knobs. But when I deleted the points on the curves again, and went back to the RMX interface, the controller no longer controlled the faders, and I found that using midi learn again didn't work

The "punch out" & "punch out (to end)" options are greyed out. When do these become available?

How can I automate the "off" of the filter section? I've tied a controller to the filter type but wan't to be able to select "off" immediately, rather than turn the knob and cycle from BP to off passing through LP on the way. Hope you get what I'm burbling on about

Sorry to be hard work but I'm totally confused! Did you notice? :hihi:

I think you're confusing automation with MIDI controllers: When automation write is on all your control changes are "recorded" without you needing to press record; its a seperate procedure entirely, and the results are editable via the "A" button (drag it to the filter you just automated to see the options)

MIDI learn otoh uses cc controllers: you DO need to record these, and they then appear inside MIDI clips just like notes (click the controllers icon in the MIDI tool-box)

select the curve and click the delete points button.. I believe you get the option to delete ALL points..

Are you in loop mode? :?

I think you need to edit your automation (or MIDI controllers) so that you have a sudden change to the "off" value at the point you need, rather than a smooth curve: you probably just need to delete a few intermediate values..

sorry

Thanks for the reply!

Makes more sense to me now, thx. I was confusing the two, yeah. Seems either can be used. I messed-up by pissing around not knowing what I was doing, ending up with both running together.

.

Cheers. I didn't explain very well. I deleted all the points but the particular parameters were still showing in the list of active parameter curves, even though I'd flat-lined them. If I played around with automation using more RMX sliders etc, then changed my mind, I assumed there should be a way of reseting the parameter so it didn't appear in the active list.Hopefully that makes more sense (not guaranteed  ).

Erm, figured it out. I wasn't actually playing ro recording at the time. Once the wheels were turning the options were available.

Very helpful and patient. Cheers :D :dog:
