Apparently there is no issue.
The update seems to keep the original and add a 2.0 for those who want it in K7.6.

rsp
I would say it is an issue if it makes it the default in K6 (as it did for me (despite the fact that it wont play and you manually have to go and find the old library and delete the new one? Seems like very bad practice to me, just introduces a nag screen to but the new version you have to take a manual action to bypass.
or simply delete the ones that you won't use.
When you say it makes it the default in K6 what do you mean? my screen shot is of K6 and it shows me both the original and the 2.0 version and I then have to choose which one I want to load.

And damn… I was considering adding NI stuff to the laptop today, but I’m going to hold off. Same goes for PA and Izotope, since I’m guessing we’re seeing the growing pains of an accelerated switch to using Native Access.

There is a 2.0 and the original and Kontakt 6 reads the original just find.

SLiC wrote: Sat Sep 16, 2023 6:08 pm So K6 users will end up with 2 version of everything and we have to select the one we can use or K6 users should just stop updating using NI Access? KK still loads the libraires without having to do anything (you would have thought would have been the same for K6?)
The current version is K7, I am not sure there will be any update for K6 ever to come or any new NI library that will use K6, maybe some third party ones available thru NI might, but then just don't update the NI content..
How exactly would you have preferred them do this?
rsp
I don't want any new libraires, I bought Noire as a K6 library, I don't have K7- so why did NI update this in K6 and then have a screen saying you have to update to use it? Why load/import libraries that cant run it to K6, why not just exclude them if its a new format that doesn't run in K6?

NA does not automatically install stuff, why would you choose to click on install for an update library when you don't have the current version of the plugin said library uses?

But no it isn't you, it is NI's fault..

What were you hoping to achieve when you clicked on update in NA?

The NI Updater says 'products that are not compatible with your software are not shown here'...? I have never had a backwards compatibility issue before with Kontakt, I didn't know it was to be expected, I normally just keep updated. Guess I need to be more careful with NI...

I see people saying I should have both versions, cant find a version of Noire that runs now, where do I look in K6?

What you are describing sounds like a forward compatibility, I am not sure what you mean by backward compatibility.
Doesn't K7 work with K6 files fine, and doesn't K6 work with K5,K4 etc file fine?

Let me go look and see what I see in Noire.

edit: but you are right with Noire.
I dont' see a 2.0 in the preset list.
yeah indeed that can be a problem.
Let me see what can be done.

mi-os wrote: Sat Sep 16, 2023 5:40 pm Since they added another discrete plugin to Kontakt (aka Kontakt 6) called Kontakt 7, without any tool to replace those instances in DAWs while maintaining plugin data, this is getting really annoying.
But Cubendo and Komplete Kontrol does... hopefully the other DAWS will eventually.
Logic use to, but apparently they haven't in awhile.

Really? How is this feature called? Let's say i have a Cubase 11 project with several instances of Kontakt 6. How i can replace those instances with Kontakt 7 without losing any settings? I can't believe i never heard of that feature i was longing for ages.

Post

just remove K6 out of the vst folder..
it will replace it with K7..
I will find google references of it.

btw it is a feature of vst3 sdk... other developers are using it for this purpose too.

Noire is a stand alone product which I paid for, I don't want to use K7 files...I want to just continue using the software I have bought in K6
Now I cant use it unless I download K7, not sure how this is user error...

@zvenx, the 2.0 libraries for Ethereal Earth, Analog Dreams and *I don't remember the third one* were there before this last update, they were upped to 2.0 when they got enhanced functionalities a while ago, and they worked perfectly in K6.
The new ones are 2.1 and probably are still named 2.0 to just distinguish them from 1.x and they likely overwrite any existing 2.x when updating.
So, 1.x are quite old versions. And I see the problem still there in theory. I cannot update now and check what happens because I cannot take the risk to not be able to load some projects I need to work on...

Having a working backwards compatible environment is getting an unmanagable clusterfuck.

To summarize: if you have the free K7 player installed you can surely use and load the new versions of the library. The main issue is with project in which the libraries have been instanced in K earlier than 7.6. I don't really know that Cubendo does to perform this magic translation to other versions ot Kontakt but for these existing projects:

a) Not sure other daws can do the same
b) Who doesn't have K7 full is screwed anyway because K7 player is not used as automatic replacement in these cases by any DAW
