Oooh.

There is no abomination on this earth worse than "Wonderful Christmastime." It is a crime against humanity.

In fact now that I'm on that, I don't think I actually like any songs written by McCartney, although I don't necessarily hate all of them. ("Eleanor Rigby" doesn't count because Lennon was involved too, and I have to be in the right mood to like that one anyway.)
Live and Let Die is a good song.

There's a joke about the CS-80 and everyone wondering what magical music he would write with that synth, and it being Wonderful Christmastime!

Whoah, chill on the Christmas music moratorium--it's only certain Christmas music. The Bielefelder Kinderchor has some great stuff. Cher, not so much. This damn song--my son loved it when he was 4 or 5, and I had to hear it over and over:

Then I remembered "What's Up?" by Four Non Blondes.
And then she ended up writing for and producing a bunch of people like Pink.

I wonder how the discussion went at the record label...
Exec 1: "Hey we need some songs for our new artist"
Exec 2: "How about that chick that 'hey-ey-ey-ey what's going on' song?"

John Lennon was the luckiest man in the world as he had Paul McCartney as a partner. Without McCartney, Lennon would have been nothing more than a mediocre songwriter with a few catchy tunes.

Lennon's songs were often self-indulgent and pretentious. He thought he was a philosopher and a poet, but most of his lyrics were just gibberish. His music was also often derivative and uninspired. He ripped off other artists many times, and he never seemed to develop his own unique sound.

McCartney, on the other hand, was a true genius. He was a master of melody, harmony, and orchestration. He could write a catchy pop song in his sleep. He was also a gifted musician and performer.

If it wasn't for McCartney, the Beatles would have been a very boring band as Lennon's songs were simply not good enough to carry the band on their own.

So here are some Lennon's sub-standard songwriting songs which I hate the most:

"Revolution 9": This song is a complete mess. It's just a bunch of random sound effects and nonsensical lyrics.
"I Am the Walrus": This song is another example of Lennon's self-indulgent songwriting. The lyrics are all over the place, and the music is completely aimless.
"Cold Turkey": This song is just a boring, repetitive dirge. The lyrics are about Lennon's heroin addiction, but they're not very insightful or interesting.

... without any doubt. Such a dumb ass piece of shit. I won't even post a video for this one. Just avoid it.

I hate national anthems.

you say that, but who was it inflicted the frog chorus on the world?

It's a silly claim. Almost all the Beatles singles pre-1967 were mostly John's. There are so many great Lennon songs. The White Album: both John and George's songs are, in general, better than Paul's. Someone either wasn't alive when it happened, or just ignorant.

And 'A Day in the Life?' Many consider that the best Beatle song ever. I don't, but it was so far out there at the time. They wen't from 'yeah, yeah, yeah,' to 'goo goo g'joob' in 4 years.
My fave song on the White Album is 'Julia.' Revolution #9 was an anomaly. To base one's opinion of Lennon's work on that is silly.

more of a paul maccartney fan here than a john lennon fan

but in defense of john lennon, his songs made the beatles a
pop-rock band instead of just a pop band
he can do the melodic stuff
and he can do the rock stuff

and he went toe to toe with paul mccartney,
the natural song machine
it's not easy to do that?
it's not easy to make so many hit songs
almost as many as paul mccartney (solo work included)
not many songwriters were capable of that

below are john lennon's songs with the beatles
wowee, what an output

Russ Abbot – I Love A Party

Absolute tosh :tantrum:

Paul wanted to write the perfect pop song, a la Brian Wilson. John was more influenced by Dylan. I prefer John and George's stuff, late Beatles. With a few exceptions, of course. Macca was the engine, Lennon/Harrison the heart and soul.
