Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen is definitely the worst song even written, the most depressing and with extremely stupid lyrics.

I'm not a Cohen fan per say, but this is a weird take.
I'll give you your feelings on the lyrics, that's personal, but if a song depresses you, that is supposed to be a depressing or sentimental song, then it's doing it's job. IMO it's much worse to attempt to elicit some emotion and fail than to succeed on eliciting the specific emotion you were aiming for. It's like listening to the Swans, Joy Division etc. and being upset it's sad music.

This Thread is called "I Hate This Song - What Song Do You Hate?" - and I hate the song (it's terrible).
It's not called "Justify why this song is bad".

Gormless radger. No, it's not a song. It's a comment on children's absolutism, and arrested development. Whatever Cohen may be, he and his writing are anything but 'stupid.' Sweet bloody Jaysus. :nutter:

TBH I don't take note of bits of music that bother me a lot, for one thing there's far too many, and I can tune out.
Also I would tend not to know what they're called anyway; many things I like I don't know what it's called or who's done it. I hear my own music in my head and at times don't even know what that is, or not immediately. I'm the absolute worst at name that tune.

I can point to one thing which irritates me on a number of levels if not every possible level and I hope not to ever have to hear again: Taxman by the Beatles. Now, going into my first objection gets us to HPC potentially (or this sure used to be the case nudge.wink) and hopefully that's enuff said. But apart from that, it 'rubs me the wrong way' sonically.

nah, someone will want to fight me on my appended... gesture. some things are just wildly overrated In My Opinion.

And to say that a whole decade (80s) was bad just because you've lived in the past since age 18, isn't absolutism? It's extremely more severe than loathing one song by the most overrated songwriter in all time. Do I owe you anything? to go on and attack people who actually express their taste in a thread they were asked to do it because their taste is different than yours, what's wrong with you? (well, except the obvious). I've never confronted you in anyway (up until now it's. I've ignored all your attempts to put me down before, but this time you took it much too far), neither did I refer you in any of my posts before, so not really sure why you have the urge to attack people who's their only crime is to have a different taste than yours and attack them personally! ('arrested development', 'stupid', 'children's absolutism', c'mon!)

When you wrote that you thought that 'Julia' was the best song on the white album I was shocked, because it's the worst song out of the all damn double album. It's the only song in the Beatles catalog in which only Lennon performs so the song suffers terribly from Lennon's (lack of) playing ability, and the guy was a great songwriter in his prime but the most boring musician ever, again, was also the luckiest as he was surrounded by music geniuses, Paul Mccartney and George Martin.
So I couldn't believe that ANYONE would think that, but I knew that it was a matter of taste and taste is completely subjective, so I just kept quiet about it (I did tell this all to of my friends though, all Beatles fans, and all bursted into uncontrolled laughter. The best song in the white album is 'While my guitar gently weeps', sadly Harrison had only 4,5 really great songs in his career, 3 in the Beatles and a few afterwards, also his well has run dry after 1973. Lennon and McCartney best decision ever was to restrict Harrison's input in Beatles albums, although and I mentioned is before, in 'Abbey Road' his 2 songs are just as good if not better than anything by Lennon/McCartney).

I'm not going to argue musical taste. :nutter:
But you just did, darling, you just did.

TBH arguments and insults are the inevitable outcome of this thread. I don’t hate songs but I hate this thread. It’s shit. 💩

BTW, love a lot of 80s music and Cohen rocks 💜
I lost my heart in Cap de Creus

I just wanted to say that you could do "Gormless Radger" to the music of "Careless Whisper" (which I don't hate..)

Do carry on.

Nah. Revvy is right. This thread sucks.

Have to agree here. It was cool and funny before people started with personal insults, but I guess it's always like this.

George Michael was a truly talented artist, a great musician who played many instruments and an amazing singer, who can really hate his work? No one..

Careless Whisper is a 80s favourite of mine, but his whole career was tremendous. a beautiful artist.
