I have a Gliss. It suffers a bit from packing too many features in and needing a cheat sheet to remember how to set various modes, but I like it a lot as a basic controller, and the CV recorder in auto looping mode is really fun.

does it have a mode similar to the 0coast pressure? i wish they did one that was just 8 outputs of the pressure, one for each "key"

I saw a ZCmk2 for around $400 recently. I almost grabbed it myself. But I have too many shift register based modules already.

That's less awful than I expected.

I just have Marbles, which is pretty different from the various analog/CMOS varieties. A couple of its features are fantastic (the note quantizer that can be trained on probability, and its ability to sample a CV input in place of random values) but it's a different vibe overall. And also it doesn't go far into audio rate like the analog/CMOS shift registers do.

I thought I could use Drezno as an LFSR by feeding back the DAC to the ADC, and I actually had some limited success with that... but it's super unstable and twitchy, like giving Red Bull and a Segway to a toddler.

Looking over the Shift Core Generator, I like a lot of the design, but it seems to lack the mutating loop thing I like so much. I guess you could feedback patch it, but without access to the individual register bits, you couldn't really set a specific pattern length.

I didn't take the 2hp option too seriously since I wanted the expanders, and I feel like the way they wedge pots and switches in between jacks just makes it awkward to use. There was a lot to like about the 2hp Freez, but the physical layout was not one of those things. I've only got one module that small now, and it's all jacks.

I did kind of entertain the notion of Ornament & Crime, but I've owned it and sold it twice already (and also Disting mk4 and Disting EX) so I don't expect I'd get along with it the third time. It would also give me the ability to quantize to microtonal scales, which is a thing I occasionally want to do, but... nah.

It's got two outputs, and you can set it so it sends slider position + pressure, or two independent sliders, or two independent pressure pads. You can also set it to latch just sliders, everything, or nothing (but latching pressure is kinda weird).

Those options are available in record mode too, and if you have it set to two sliders or two pressure pads, their loop times are independent, which is fun

thanks for the info, pressure is such a fun little thing, cant believe they only put a single instance, ok two outputs but theyre not independent.
may have to think about maybe, a small case, with a few of those in, for a hands on controller... hmmm.

Sonic Liven LoFi 6.

Somehow couldn’t walk away from this… it’s very limited intentionally, including being a limited edition, likely because they know it won’t be massively popular.

Still, something seems fun about it. I might kick myself later for getting it after trying to minimize my options.

I think it’s got some nice character and should be fun. I hope.

I'm definitely interested in hearing your thoughts on this after you get into it.

I just got this delivered yesterday… but there’s going to be a learning curve because not every function is printed on top. It comes with a cardboard overlay for the sample editing functions which is really the only reason I have it (not I just have to make sure I don’t forget what those are).

This one is the most gimmicky of the bunch and least flexible because everything is at the low bit/sample rate. Lo-Fi 12 has an option to engage the 12bit sound… not so with this one.

I’ll get my mileage out of it, just for the sampling, but this is a strange one and probably the least necessary thing to purchase at its price.

All things I knew going in, but I’m a sucker for designs like these, and well, they got me.

But she’s supportive and I don’t mind her asking me, because this is not a necessity. I know I gave into GAS with this one, but I do plan on having some fun with it… thankfully she’s supportive of having fun.

One of the Elektron forum admins said he would end up using both (MKii + MKiii) in different ways. Of course that’s an easy/possibly unhealthy way to wonder how I could benefit from the same.

Brit is always concerned that I might think her video game purchases are frivolous but I'm just glad she has a pastime to enjoy when I'm working on music stuff.
Like me, she forgets to buy new clothes and has to be dragged kicking and screaming to any kind of spa or salon. She dyes her hair occasionally or I should say, I dye her hair. So it would be difficult not to notice.

Brit handles all the invoicing, bills and expenses, so I wouldn't even know what either of us spend on anything. I trust her, she's never given me a reason not to!
