Sounds like Albino Legend is going to be the original Albino (Papen purchased the code from Peter) and he’s not going to mess with it other than adding additional GUI sizes, VST3, and compatibility with new operating systems. Plus it sounds like it’ll have the same plugin ID so your projects using the old Albino will load the Legend version.

Sounds decent enough for me. If they offer trials and the VST / VST3 correctly 'auto-migrate' I'll likely purchase this update. Depending upon the price.

I will wait for a demo first then decide. I liked Albino in the old days, but I don't know how useful it is for me now that I have more than I want from synths!

The main thing is no one has mentioned is the code. The code is written by Peter (LinPlug) as far as I know, but now he is not participating. I don't know if Jon would modify the code and updated it? How far he would involve in modifying the code? or it will be just a graphic update?

I hope, of course, that Jon will update the code and maybe add to it as he sees fit to be on par with modern synths. Let's wait and see

Taking over the code of somebody else is very tough, I doubt it can happen in a large scale refactoring.
The new go2x doesn't have even drag and drop for modulation. Who wants to work like that?

I still love predator, subboombass2, go2 as a simple synth or there drum synth (forgot the name).
But the rest is very meh.... The effects are really not on par with the market. And the synths are improving too slowly. .

Since Vital was released as free vst synth,the standard for 'modern' synth is very high nowadays imho.
Must be intuitive,flexible,with great fx section (which Vital still miss ) many different types of filters,a a lot of modulation sources and targets so on very basic demands for a 'modern' synth,which 10 years ago was big deal,now not so.
Not to forget multilayer structure,not a single develop do seriously anything in that direction.
For example why there is no 5.1 channel synths where every layer could routed directly as channel and to give composer/songwriter to export 5.1 channel audio,which isn't even so contemporary these days.
Nobody even thought about that or can not be done?
What about something advanced for advanced songwriters...
I'll tell you why - from my humble experience with few developers,they rely on popularity and mass audience which just start to learn and play with virtual synthesizes and ask 'Which one is the best'' and a lot of magazines and reviews can't wait to point 'the best' synths for 100-150 euro
But if you make mistake publicly to point some problems with their synths ...your heresy won't be forgiven and forgotten
The fact that no single developer i try to reach so far is interested to offer more advanced presets to the users speaks enough about the entire market and targets these guys chase.
If that's the case with Albino 3 Legend not gonna waste my time with it.
But will give it a try for sure.
Probably is just business for them,but when somebody take my money i want attitude too.
Maybe i'm hopeless romantic and idealist,but if i can do 5 years research and to offer something more advanced almost for free,they should be able too...for 100-150 euro/us .

I played around with original last night. I still have Teksonic preset bank in there. Things I wish for: snappier envelopes. (The envelopes don't seem as tight as some modern stuff. Please make the ability to send one envelope to both filters. Easier sequencer/arp would be great. I'd love another filter type. Silk, Cream, Scream and Formant and Notch are on there but I don't really hear a diff in Silk & Cream. Also more FX. How about a Glitch Sequencer like Thorn has. This was as close to an Access Virus in its time as far as architecture. And proper Detune. There's a Spread knob on every oscillator but I don't know if it's unison.

I do. I hate drag and drop anything especially modulation.

The additions to Go2 X that actually have an effect on its range of sounds are very interesting to me. More waveforms, the ability to create our own waveforms, the Arp/Seq from Bit 2, new filters, additional Unison options, more modulation slots, and so on. I've made a bunch of presets for the current Go2 and the additions will allow me to create even more and it will continue to get used in projects.

Take those improvements into consideration and the new GUI sizes that will make working with Albino pleasant again and this is a no brainer update for me. That's not even factoring in what may be added to Explorer 9 for free over time. All that for $74 is a stellar deal to me.

But then I tend to focus on what plugins can do and not fret about what they can't do. Is Albino a top tier synth compared to other modern synths? Perhaps not but it's still a nice sounding synth and I've got about 3000 presets backed up for it so getting the updated Albino back in my arsenal is going to be nice. I'm sure it will find use here even alongside the ton of other more recently released synths I own.

I remember Albino being a ton of fun to patch as well and that's not going to change so bring it on. Like I said take my money Rob, I'll upgrade the moment it's available and be very happy doing so....

I don't think it is too extreme to say I will probably get into it rather like people got into the re-release of hardware Seq Circuit Prophet synths.

If you have a host that can run plugins out-of-process, you can run the host in AS mode and it will take care of "bridging" the plugin(s), that's probably your case - otherwise the DAW needs to run in Rosetta 2 mode.

I have no doubt you're correct, but I confess I don't know what you're talking about. I simply have Logic running on an M1 - what would my host be that I'm unaware of?

All software written with Intel code runs in Rosetta 2 mode on Apple Silicon.
Theoretically, the host/DAW would also need to run on Rosetta in order to load Intel plugins.
But, very simplistically, Logic can run Intel plugins (running on Rosetta) by means of sand-boxing (or bridging, or out-of-process, or...), although running in Apple Silicon native mode.
Once Apple drops support for Rosetta 2, these plugins won't run any longer, as Syntonica pointed out.

Exactly how I feel. I could spend far more on a single night on the town so if a plugin amuses and entertains me for days, weeks, or longer then it's a heck of a bargain.

I don't think anyone expects Albino to take a place in the upper echelon of current synths but it will certainly find its niche here.

It might not be my most used synth but it will certainly get used.....

Far from me the idea to dimish your pleasure. As said, beauty is in the eye of the one looking.
To me, I have Pigments and Phase Plant getting new effects, new oscillators, granular synthesis for free, it sounds odd to pay 74 bucks for an old synth and a small synth upgrade.
Go2 is a 49USD synth, how can its upgrade cost 74bucks ?

Oops , I couldn't resist. Anyway, overall, I still like rob papen brand, so I am happy to see that some people are happy...
