Current is more into spectral than wavetable, exactly like Vital, so Serum is not a good comparison. It is like comparing Serum and Novum (I am going a bit too far here lol)....

All that's left to do is decide to get on this black Friday MA Current or VPS Avenger 2 upgrade + VCV Rack 2 pro. Price range is almost the same.
I wish I could take them all

On the other hand, current seems fun as hell.
A big decision point will be the pricing...n

Nah man, Im a firm believer that a really good sound designer can make any plugin sounds great to a degree. I dont think any one of those plugins sound better or worse than serum. Its all up to the person, and their knowledge/creativity. Maybe those plugins have presets that you "subjectively" like better than Serum, but thats about it.Jac459 wrote: Thu Nov 02, 2023 1:08 amI bought Serum because of this kind of post.... My point was to say Serum has nothing magical. It sounds like many other "good" wavetable synths like Hive.
It just happens to have come first as a new gen of synth, hence its legendary status.
So I bought it because reading KVR it seemed like a magical synth. But in 2022-2023, it is just "another synth".
So I think your point saying Serum isn't special for in the same way....

This guy in the video could be you ATM before he realized what Serum is…
If you have approx 1 exact minute (9:30 to 10:30 video time stamp) it may help you to reflect your quite possible superficial statement about this synth.
Just 60 seconds opinion by one of the best sound designer in the business.

You have a phenomenal synth… not “just another”.

Thank you for this interesting video. I watched much more than the 1 minute you advised and the sounds produced are great.
BUT
The person you are quoting is saying the same than I do. He is saying that Serum is part of his top 3... With repro and zebra.
My point is this one, I never said it was another synth, I said it is another "good" synth.
When I bought Serum, I was having Diva,
I was having Hive 2,
I was having VPS Avenger,
I was having Falcon,
I was having Phase Plant,
I was having Vital,
I was having Pigments,
I was having Spire,
I was having all the fabulous Reason Ecosystem with Europa,
And much more...
And then naturally I thought Serum is cool.... But not cooler. Should I invest on this more time than the others? Not sure....
Then you could tell me:"but JAC, why the f**k do you buy another wavetable synth when you always have all these great ones, that doesn't make any sense!"
And you would be totally right, but I have this rare and unknown condition named GAS, not sure if you heard of it
.
Anyway, back on "Current" topic, recently I bought DS Thorn and I loved the spectral touch of it, it has a vital and Europa flavour but more pronounced. Current has such a flavour with its spectral processing and if you add the interesting FX it has, to me it offers a strong distinct value compared to Serum.

Current will be a fun synth to use due to the whole package...
