To double check, there is no actual factory preset bank right? The description says 340+ factory presets, but does that mean 340+ presets available via the preset packs in stream?

Yes they are currently available though the stream.

I think it is the chicken and egg scenario.
Established sound designers probably wouldn't do third party sound banks unless they know Current sells well.. Understandable as they would want a return of their investment in time.. No sense making a sound bank for a synth that doesn't sell well unless you are creating that sound bank for fun.

I think that it's safe to say that the launch was pretty much a disaster and it really clouded opinions of the synth itself.

Now that the dust has settled I think the synth can be assessed more on its capabilities.

Personally, I've been a fan of Minimal's effects for a long time and everything about this synth continues that tradition.

I do like to think of synths as self contained instruments as opposed to a deconstructed collections of features and I pretty much love everything about how it's put together. The effects unsurprisingly, are some of best in class and things like having the modulation for things like the Morph EQ make it better than the standalone version.

Love the modulation system and the Wavetable section is an entire world unto itself.

The more I use it the more I like it and as a new release it's already ticking so many boxes.

The one thing I'd say about current is that it's arguably the easiest synth in the world to make packs for.

It's all self contained including the actual platform where the content will be sold.

It will definitely be quite interesting to see how Current fairs out in the wild over the next few months. I've had nothing be really positive interactions with Minimal Audio, so I hope this synth gains some traction (and I think it's a really well-thought out synth).

Possible bug. Using Bitwig, Win 11, VST2. Create & save a preset with tags selected, change the preset then go to save it again (overwrite) and there are no tags selected.

I did buy it, not cheap but covers so much!

Current's effects supersede just about every software instrument I have ever used or tested. They sound far better than just about any effect in Serum or Phase Plant, with some of Pigment's effect on par. There is a built-in limiter you can trigger both on every effect and globally, how genius is that!

The included presets sound amazing but at times a bit overproduced. It's almost as if you're playing loops. But given Current's workflow and sound quality I wouldn't be surprised if we soon get a lot of third-party presets that match your genre.
Is this an adequate presentation of the presets, or is the audio quality severely degraded?

Listening on studio monitors in a partially treated room... most of these sound like crap. The effects do not sound very impressive.

The reverb sounds subpar, the filter sweeps or whatever those are sound ugly and awkward, the saturation sounds severely lacking in fullness, depth, and brightness (though it manages to still be excessively harsh)....

Haha, that "GAS" math.... Buy more ... to make it cheaper ... to buy less.

It sounds great in my treated and tuned studio, are you listening to the previews, or loading each patch one by one?

I'm listening to the Youtube video I linked to. Is the quality degraded, or similar to what you're hearing that you like?

YouTube is encoded in low quality MP3 ... It is better to try a demo.
