Issue with EQ.

When using native EQ plugin there is a "crack" sound like an explosion every time I move the first band. It's very weird.

P.S. I'm using the Linux version.

Yes, several years known issue. The advice is simple: use another EQ.

...or Mequalizer within the awesome Melda Productions Free Bundle. ;-) These two are the best free equalizers (TDL Nova is the third and is dynamic) IMHO ;-)

Would you like me to tell the story of my proposal for a built-in equalizer and the final implementation?))

Great! It will probably be tomorrow. But, maybe I’ll post a picture today. Let me clarify right away: I’m not angry at the developers for this :)
And yet, the built-in equalizer blurs the sound. Smoothes out sound nuances. If you are interested, compare how the built-in equalizer affects the wave using a Wave observer or Psyscope oscilloscope; in real time you can see the wave before eq and after eq. Almost all equalizers on the market suffer from this. The closest to the original are FF and Kirchhoff. And the most beautiful-sounding ones based on Bezier curves are SplineEq or Psyphaz. This is just my opinion :) But they have a minus, although this is a matter of taste and habit :)

To be honest, it's not realistic to expect a built in eq to compete with Fab Filter which costs £144, twice as much as Waveform 12 can be had for in black friday sale (if past history repeats). I'm not saying WF eqs should not be better and bug free. For what it's worth I tend to use SSL X-Eq2 and Sonnox Claro, both of which I bought stupid cheap for the quality and workflow they bring to the table.

I'm sorry to hijack the thread, but... What's so special about the Sonnox Claro sound wise? I'm demoing it right now and the features are awesome. But are there any audio advantages over other VST EQs? Or even better: Do you have any advice how to test different EQs, so they show the "smearing" you were mentioning before?

Claro is just a good sounding eq, to my ears, but there are many just as good, where it shines is it's features which fit in with my way of thinking and working. I won't bother spending valuable recording time analysing plugins with Plugin Doctor and the like so I couldn't say whether it's better than others, designing a digital eq is a balance of compromises anyway. Use your ears :)

@operandx I completely agree with you! But, I’ll ask a question: what if a built-in tool appears in some daw that will be of extra modern quality and level, like eq? Do others have such opportunities? No. This is an option for attracting and developing :) especially since the functions can be divided into free and paid versions.

OK, I'm gonna use my ears, yes. But is there anything I should focus on in the term of the sound smearing? I have never come across this term, and I don't think I have heard any evidence of it in my mixes before. But maybe I just don't know how to find it (hear it). Could someone help me, please?

I am a Linux user, so there are less alternatives than on other OS like Windows or Mac, but I found a set of plugins for Linux that are awesome, https://lsp-plug.in/.

Thanks for reply.

Thankyou all for taking your time to reply. I have more problems with Waveform free, like the impossible mission of automate the modwheel of Hive 2 and others alike. I'm trying Reaper as a DAW and I must say that it's very impressive. I am going to still making things with this two DAWs and in a week or two I'll decide.

Thanks for all guys.
