one thing for sure (re Current and Avenger 2); i do not want to hear ANY wobble basses... :dog:

EDIT: watching this now:

EDIT2: ok: nothing about this interests me. i don't need fully-formed songs to trigger, don't need pianos & other basic sounds,& have a dozen great plugins currently. so, am leaning towards Current (or, lol, nothing new right now...)
There are indeed a few presets that are somewhat full songs.
You can simply unactivate the arpeggiators and use the sounds you hear in them.
And you can simply skip to the next instruments folder.
The full songs mean nothing to me in Avenger. The synths are everything.

Post

Fortunately Avenger is not all about those premade loops.
I myself do not like them either... they are for me just demos (which I shouldn't have to pay for).

the synth sounds are not unfamiliar (i have a good number of synth plugins that sound similar enough). fwiw, Current sounds... different enough to be intriguing. my concern (with both, really) is how trendy they seem, and if i care about that (or not). hmmmmmm

No competition really. Avenger is head and shoulders above Current. Avenger's fx, filters, envelopes, modulation, unison, and presets, are all better than Current. And judging by the previews of Avenger2, the difference will only get bigger.

The interface of Current is a bit easier to work with. But that's about it. It's nothing special, doesn't sound special (rather thin and easily burried in a mix) and the online preset thing is just a gimmick imo. The reverb and delay are about the worst i ever heard in a synth btw.

If you like this kind of heavy modulation approach, have a look at Phaseplant. Also beats Current in every department, and has a far easier (and unlimited) modulation system.

i disagree; Current sounds great, has lots of unique features, and is certainly not 'thin' (i've even eq'd out a little midrange on some sounds). the online thing = more content; not sure why that would be 'a gimmick'.

i've been poring over youtube videos on avenger, and.. it's not for me. perhaps if i didn't already have a bunch of synth plugins.

in which case... Current is very different from my other synths, and will probably go for it.

I too mostly agree with you.
Current sounds great. Bold!! In your face.. and very different.
And for sure sounds better than phase plant to my taste pallette.

i have phase plant, but never really got into it. i have massive X, dune 3, vital, twin 3, spire... etc, and feel like i've got great synth sounds covered. plus i've got several drum plugins (and the resources in logic pro as well).

avenger IS impressive, just maybe not for me. Current maybe is...

I feel like Current has a lot of identity.

It's not trying to be a jack of all trades but forging its own path.

A much smaller feature set but more bespoke.

Even the effects occupy their own place. Rift with its bipolar distortion or the Fuse compressor with its OTT on steroids. The weird filters and the odd spectral effects on the Wavetable oscillators.

But together it's all very cohesive. Everything kind of works together. It's complex without being complicated. I have to say that the fact that it doesn't have 50 simultaneous oscillators and all the other bells and whistles is really refreshing.

I find it very focused.

The best way I can sum it up is that Current feels more like an instrument than a tool.

Post

Even the presets that are kinda full songs SQ, ARP, multi or whatever are interesting, because you can delete all parts but one (the one you like) and save it as preset, there are some really good and special ones.
What I also like is the amount of presets and their quality (!) .
It's a quite big amount, but not a huge amount like for instance u-he.
U-he synths are nice, but I remember Diva has about one million presets (!!!!), Qantity does not automatically mean quality or Amplitube by IK Mtimedia where 80% of presets are crap! You simply loose track and minor quality is demotivating.
It's similar to going to a bakery to simply buy bread buns and they offer several different buns, I don't need that. Make good bread buns, I think 3 different ones are more than enough.

Coffee with cow's milk? , we have from France, Italy or Switzerland, lactose-free?, rock milk or with goat's milk or maybe soya milk or oat milk or rice milk, certified organic, fair trade or? or? or?
Sorry, but I'd like to have a peppermint tea with white sugar,, with just some white sugar, please!

Avenger is an instrument and tool imo
Use it immediately or use it as a tool to create your own awesome presets, I use it more as a tool.

Post

IMHO every newer instrument face huge risk (from the developer side), because we don't really need newer synths, there are a bunch of already existing super super synths to use, and those synths are existing, tested, rock solid etc...
Of course we may need some new synths with some really new features - Like SynthPlant2 - but in synthplant2 case I still can question this new feature, I still think it's not that usable, but that 's just me. So in case of Current, I admit it's a "nice package of features" bit in my book, adds nothing new to my existing tools.

Post

Avenger is a piece of art, I would pay 99 usd for the gui only without any sounds.

Some people complain about the upgrade price, but some devs would charge 99 for the new reverb of v2 only, and everyone knows what extraordinary high quality every single fx of Avenger is.

Why is developer looking so not impressed in this video?
Btw; How much will it cost?

He is apparently a very focused guy, nothing wrong with it

next to Claudio, everyone must be looking boring :)
But in fact I am very excited for the release. Finally after 4 years of work on it.

I can post the updated Specs (with version 2.0 features added), maybe that can make an impression, whats possible. I dont know "current" so I wont do any comparisons.
For me as a sound designer, Avenger is my dreamsynth, since there are nearly no restrictions, everything you have in your head - and even if its complex af - is possible somehow.

Of course in demonstration videos we like to use "impressive" self playing SQ Sequence presets. But these are only a small part of Avengers' library. And furthermore the arps and sequences can be turned off, so you even with SQs you can end up with normal playable sounds, if you want. See SQ presets as kind of a "container" or song project, where you have access to all used elements.

Pitch, spread, reverse these grains, play forward, backward or in whatever speed or direction your want by using our internal powerful granular envelope. Insane and unlimited possibilites - and a lot of fun!

• Spectral Synthesis:

You can switch from granular mode to spectral mode. Working similar, but without "grains". This mode uses an FFT / timefreeze algorithm for smooth and wonderful cloudy control over your sample. There is even a "spectral expander" to heavily compress certain frequency areas. you can also all a reverb like smear (overlapping bands) and you can chose from 8 different spectral algorithms.

Avengers' perfectly tuned new comb filter gives you the possibility of feedback / string simulation synthesis: Use short pluck samples as resonator impulses for guitar string like sounds or use waveforms with strong feedback for screaming sounds. Add a shaper module for further control and more interesting frequency spectrums or stack two or more comb filter modules for complete feedback mayhem!

• Guitar Player / Chord Detection Module

A live loop guitar player! There is a growing factory library and specialized expansion packs, providing you with many real "live played" guitar loops, which automatically will follow the chords you play (min/maj etc.).
