I tried the ASIO4ALL drivers and it now seems to work the way you say. I guess Traction doesn't like the Creative ASIO drivers. Thats where the erratic behavior comes from too I suppose

Thanks again

On an Audigy, you need to do the following in the Creative Mixer:

1. Un-mute the Line Input
2. Select Line Input for your recording source (over there on the far right)
3. Turn OFF End to End. It causes latency in the recording process, and you will find that if you compensate for this by playing early, then your parts will all be early.

Get yourself a mixer, even a 6 or 8 channel unit can be had for less than $100. You can then use the mixer's aux busses to send audio to the sound card and use the main bus for your monitor signal. If you have a good mixer with inserts, you can use the inserts as a direct mic-send to get audio in to your sound card.

I actually use 2 mixers on my system. I have an 8 channel Alesis that I plug my guitars and mic into, and I have a 6 channel Behringer that I use to mix the MIDI keyboard, 2 sound cards, and the preview mix from the other mixer. This works out very well for me.
