I don't ask people if they know who they are listening to, I ask who they are listening to. :) (and i do this because i genuinely want to know who the artist is, not because i'm curious if they know. I only even mention this because it happens so frequently.
Yeah, I ask exactly the same question whenever I hear something interesting (or am reintroduced to it/reminded of it) - "who's that?" (or "who's that again?")

About half an hour ago I asked it when my 10years old son asked me to put on his headphones for a moment to listen to Midnight City (by M83 - I had completely forgotten they even exist ) - and so I quickly looked them up and then we watched some concert footage for a couple of minutes and agreed that we're gonna attend their next gig that's not too far away...

Awesome. That's the kind of outcome i'm interested in when i ask. If it leads to me attending a concert then it's good.

What was the last VST - effect or instrument - that generally blew your mind in terms of innovative features?

Synthman2000 wrote: Fri Dec 01, 2023 12:03 pm I believe we have reached 'peak synth' and now 'peak plug in' you can probably get 4-7 versions of any classic gear and at least one very good version of pretty much anything you can think of.
This is the phenomena known as "doomsday narcissism." You want to be at the end of the story. It makes you feel special. We are not at the end of the story, and we are not special. Your experience has closed you off to the possibilities of what synthesis can be. It can be more, and it will.
I don't want anything, that's the point. The end of the story is the end of my life.

'Doomsday narcissism' as you term it has never been heard of here, that's a box someone made that you have accepted as a thing.

We all have an end of the story and it is nothing to do with want.

I could spend 40 years discovering new things with my existing synths at the rate I can currently use them. New synthesis will not make better music.

My advice is make something stunning with the synths you have now.
I know it feels bad to be called out for something, but you clearly have some need to feel like you’re a the end of something, in this case it’s the development of music software. Don’t feel bad. This is common. Development will go on regardless as to your feelings about it. I’m personally excited at the possibilities, many of them I’m sure I can’t even imagine, of new plugins.
It is more of a case that you are just absorbing and repeating a term found online rather than having your own thought processes.

Surely if we hit a peak that's a positive thing for all involved, it means very high quality has been achieved. The complete opposite of your position.

Both on 'calling me out' for something you imagined in your own mind and relating to online 'doomsday' terms you soaked up and regurgitated. I believe you did not think sufficiently before being 'against' something you invented.

Then just banally quoting some internet inventions in an attempt to feel in the know.

I summarize that you have become mixed up with what you are writing about, a figment of your own imagination, I am not wanting to be at the end of anything, the end of anything is not entering my mind.

Neither is a peak the end, even that does not make sense.

The only thing at the end for sure, is my discussion of this inane point with you.

And I feel pretty good, so you have that wrong too. Don't take it too personally though as I think what you usually contribute on the forum is good.

An idiot on Set Theory:

Klanghelm has recently released a reverb, isn't it mind-blowing to release a reverb?!
