The update will be free for existing customers...
Ist this reasonable enough for you?? 8)

That's ok then, cannot say fairer than free if it's true and held till time of release.

Hope Zebra3 is free update also. Hard for it not to be if Serum update is free.

Not excited for either.

IIRC, it will be $30 unless you own Zebra HZ, which would let you have the upgrade for free.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

why? there's no mandate that developers all do the same thing w/their business plans.

here's the relevant thread. Z2 is officially a different product than Z3 will be. no need to go off topic in this thread. the details about zebra 3 and zebra legacy are in the thread below.

:hihi: I was going to post the same thing as imo giving it free to existing owners is very generous from Steve.

The fact he wants to do this to reward people that supported him buying serum is rare and something to commend imo.

Imho Steve is one of a very few running a nearly perfect business practice...

Serum received a ton of free and really good updates over the years and if V2 will see the light of day (according to Dave Gamble it actually will) it will be no different...
His support is second to none either via his forum or per mail...
His plugins were always been very stable and different ...pioneers for others having copied him (especially LFO Tool and Serum)...

Yes, it´s often a bit more expensive at first... but once you are in you can benefit a whole lot from the initial investment. :tu:

I'd be interested in a Serum 2 if came at a reasonable upgrade price, improved the modulation assignment, made their OTT unit more flexible, provided better zooming on their envelopes, grid snapping on the LFOs, and provided more visual feedback on their FX units, and added a decent Arp. Also, every VST parameter should double-click back to default (in serum, it's alt+click or something of that ilk).

I use Serum, PhasePlant, and Current about equally. They all kind of scratch the wavtable itch in different ways.
The only thing that Serum relly needs is a true parallel filter and the ability to true ping pong loop the sample in the noise section

Still, I wanted to get an answer from the Serum developers to the question why does this synth consume a lot of resources? Can it optimize some algorithms by replacing std::pow, std::log and so on with analogues from fast math? Or how should profiling be done?

Because there is no answer to this...

Either you concentrate on quality and it uses more resources or you sacrifice quality for being able to run a few instances more...
Ever asked Urs why Diva takes so much CPU and why he cannot make it more CPU friendly??

Second: it doesn´t take more resources than Vital, Current, Avenger etc... it´s in a good midfield...

Third: on a more or less modern computer I can run many many more instances of Serum I would ever need in a project...

Look, your old computer has a single CPU score of 504... a 2023 macbook Air of 3127... this is more than 6 times less power...
Even worse when it comes to multi core performance which is the key to run many instances:
989 vs 21031... you´ve got more than 21 times less power than a nowadays computer...

Let that sink in: More than 21 times less ability to run a programm on it... and you are asking the developer to solve your problem???
And if you take Reason 5 as a benchmark against Serum you have a different problem than just CPU power imho...
