I wasn't referring to you specifically, but if the nothingness fits......

I do suffer from nihilism*, in fact, but not proudly. ...though that was a movie quote, if it wasn't clear.Bombadil wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 2:45 am I wasn't referring to you specifically, but if the nothingness fits......

Ive seen his movie I guess it's called space is the place and heard some records here and there and none of it sounded like it could be the theme for ShaftI've seen Parliament and Sun Ra live (separately). Sun Ra was funkier.

I think that you have to define tolerate a bit better. If I'm in Starbucks, I can tolerate whatever bullshit they're playing for the time it takes to get my overpriced latte and leave. Times that I've left or stayed because of music almost always center around extreme forms of almost any genre. I can tolerate noise/experimental, until the pedal guys with big amplifiers show up. I can tolerate everything on the radio as long as it's not too loud. I can tolerate almost all live music, until it's some form of the 2^24 different genres of shit-metal, which are all shit, and all too loud, then I'm out. I can tolerate almost any form of electronic music until it's the dumb and loud mainstream shit, e.g., x-step for all x.
My most tolerated genre is a meta genre, it's minimal, but that as applied to any genre, not some specific kind of music. Satie is minimal, Hawtin is minimal, Buddy Guy is minimal. If I'm not there for it specifically, then loudness and minimal work hand in hand. The more minimal the music is, the louder I can tolerate it.

Yup. I did an absolute shit job of phrasing the question. Communication is hard!
I meant to ask which genre you are "never not in the mood for." ...which is a double negative, but best captures what i mean. Not your "favourite," but the one you are always comfortable with.
But, meh, it got people talking so I wasn't going to sweat it.

I'm not sure there are any American Post Punk bands, are there? I mean, from back in the day. Like most worthwhile music, it's an English/European thing. Maybe Wall of Voodoo would qualify? Perhaps Minimal Man, too? Definitely not Fugazi and LCD Soundsystem only in the worst way (I find their stuff universally awful).Uncle E wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 12:29 amFugazi? LCD Soundsystem? I’m curious where the genre starts and ends.
That said, Wikipedia seems to think there are a few.
