neverbefore wrote: Wed Feb 14, 2024 1:37 am Imaginando FRMS can be a 4 operator FM where an operator can be a sample, an oscillator or live input. It does not get a lot of love on KVR but is quite easy to use with a well designed interface

https://www.imaginando.pt/products/frms ... -tutorials

I was thinking of selling my copy coz I am trying to get rid of half what I own, but at the moment I have decided to keep it and get rid of other things first
I appreciate the quick reply, but I wasn’t looking to spend the amount that the desktop versions of this program cost for this functionality. I do see the Rent-to-Own Option though as a possibility. Still, I already bought Plogue Bidule which is why I was asking if I could still get the patch from Cinningbao.

Do you know if the iOS / iPadOS version of Imaginando FRMS has that Same Functionality of being able to FM one live input against another live input?
Bidule is definitely on my list of possible purchases and probably a better buy anyway. No idea on the ipad version, you'd have to contact them

I think I made a mistake - live input is not able to be FM'd - rechecking at the moment
I had to try it out. It sure does do FM based on the live input. I'm playing with it on my iPad. However, I cannot yet see a way to side chain another sound, so it only uses a single input in my example.
Lost in translation processing

on the desktop version the FM knob is greyed out for live input so you cant feed it into the fm. I am still having a play but it certainlky sounds like theLive input is modulating the internal oscillators

Also, it is only one live input, which I had also forgotten

Hmm, so maybe I need the Plogue Bidule Patch after all in order to play around with this without doing it myself?

So here’s a question, what Software Synth available, on any platform, has functionality that is the Closest to what the Yamaha SY99 was capable of doing—including loading your own samples in to do FM of them?

I can recommend Plugdata as an open source freeware alternative to paid modular environments like Reaktor, Max & co etc to achieve FM (or rather PM) of 2 audio signals.

The included live electronics tutorial features a "Signal.FM.PM.pd" help file with easy to copy math for Phase Modulation. I recorded a quick demo using it for FM here:

That’s very cool (based on Pure Data). It’s also available on iOS / iPad too! Definitely worth checking out! Thanks for suggesting this (not like I’m “drowning” in various Soft Synths as it is ;-)

I have Plogue Bidule. Could I please get This Patch from you which FM’s one Audio Signal against another?
Hi ultimatesynth,

Sure I'll send it over pm.
Let me know if you get any problems with it.

Thanks CinningBao. Will do.

FYI the desktop version often goes on sale. I bought FRMS desktop for $25 in 2022.

It's relatively easy to do phase modulation with arbitrary inputs for carrier and modulator in VCV Rack. I've used the Waveguide Delay from Sckitam to pretty good effect. I posted a proof of concept example on the VCV Rack forums:

https://community.vcvrack.com/t/phase-shift/16222/44

Too lazy to post the files here, since I'm on my phone, but it works. If you're working entirely within Rack, it's free, but if you want to use Rack as a plug in your DAW, you need to buy Rack Pro.
