Confused about drums

Hi. I'm just starting out with electronic music and i'm using Waveform Free. I have read a lot and understand most of it, but drums I don't understand.

What should I use to create my drum track? I've searched a long time about two options:

1) I've downloaded Monster Drums as a plugin in Waveform Free. It has great drum kits, but I can't seem to find a way to exchange (for example) a kick drum in one kit for another kick drum in another drum kit and then create and save it as a new drum kit. Is this possible?

2) Waveform Free has a Micro Drum Sampler, but it only has two drum kits. I have read that you can add drum samples files to the Micro Drum Sampler and thus build and save your own new drum kits. But when I want to do that, I'll first have to search and download drum sample files, right? Is this the best way to go to create new drum kits?

How do you guys build your drum kits? What is the preferred method?

Personally, I build pretty well all my drum sounds in the mix using (mostly) the drum synthesis modules in the Kong device in Reason. To be fair, I have decades of experience and can pretty well dial up whatever I want faster than endless sample flipping.

Monster devices are amusing but really limited. If you feel the need for sample flipping then you will want something that eases that process. There are a trillion drum players out there but if this is to be a serious thing for you then it would probably be wise to invest in one machine that you "marry" and grow old with so you can be like me and do anything with. Perhaps have a looksee at the TAL Drum instrument that makes sample swapping pretty elegant as well as having the ability to just about anything most EDMmers will ever want. Hi imstre. Thanks for your suggestion! Although Sitala isn't free anymore ($20) it looks very promising. You think it's worth the money?

Edit: I see that the free version is still available on their website. So I'm trying it out now. If I like it, I will definitely buy the update for only 20 bucks!
