Hosting AU - Native Support?

Hey ju-x,
I've always really liked Hosting AU as my preferred lightweight plugin host - thanks for this tool, it's great!
Are there any plans on an M1 Native version of Hosting AU?
(No worries about timescales or anything, I'm just wondering whether this will happen at some point.)
Thanks!

Sorry for my too slow response! I have the plan. I think I may keep the current Hosting AU as it is (or + minimum fixes) to keep the backward compatibility. Now it's running 10 years!
Then I'm interested in developing totally or almost another AU host that conforms M1 yes, Metal support too. Also modularize it for more tailor-made minimum host needs.
So the thing is time vs the huge plan. Still struggling to resolve this basic thing...

Hey junojux,
I have been using Hosting AU for years too, this is such a great small but quick app for jamming, thank you! A new or a further developed version would be great. One problem I have is relatively frequent crashes of plugins, maybe this could be fixed.

I'd just like to tip another name into the hat. We know now that Rosetta 2 support will be sunset in macOS 27, and macOS 28 will require native binaries. You could still package HostingAU as a Universal app with both Intel/AS builds though.
Hope this could be the impetus to create it. Hosting AU is freaking amazing, reminds me a bit of REAPER, and I hope it lives on for a long long time. It is so useful to me, not only for easy headphone correction with AUNBandEq, but also for more advanced scenarios too.

Well, it's been another year. macOS is now giving a nag screen every time you open and use Rosetta apps, including Hosting AU.
I hope we can see Hosting AU brought forward into the next chapter of macOS!

I've moved onto using Sessions as my lightweight AU host (which also loads au3)

1.5.1b is available on the GitHub https://github.com/junojux/junojux.gith ... (Only two three users that MacUpdater knows of.) Would that be the Apple Silicon update?
Thanks for the tip. I have also used Element, which is a FOSS Multiplatform plugin host, and native ARM code on Mac. https://kushview.net/element/ (https://kushview.net/element/) https://github.com/kushview/element (https://github.com/kushview/element) . I generally am using Hosting AU for parametric headphone correction, and can access all the Apple AU's no problem in Element.aMUSEd wrote: Tue May 05, 2026 10:07 pm I've moved onto using Sessions as my lightweight AU host (which also loads au3)

Unfortunately it's not as easy/slick as Hosting AU is, and it has slightly higher CPU usage, but it is native code.
I will have to check out Sessions though.
