I recall, IIRC, Orion was also very efficient.

Decided to start comparing New-to-Old Reaper... Version 7 vs version 1.8... 17 years difference apart...
Version 7 smooth plug scan no crash or hangs for VST-VSTi... However activating DX-DXi scanning rather poor with 2 crashes & one hang that other DAWs do not have issues with...
Version 1.8 from 2007 had TWO crashes for VST-VSTi but I still find that amazing for 2007 since I am using many plugins newer than that but all nearly ten years old for version 7... DX-DXi was better with 2 crashes & NO hangs...
Workflow for version 7 is quite sorted out especially the step recording with 'foot' button finally there I remember back in version 3 days there was a few tricks to get step recording going but this early version does not yet have 'Use all MIDI inputs for step recording' but does have the use F1-F12 step record option...

You also hafta load in VSTi in the FX bin... Old & new Reaper read internal VST-VSTi presets but seems like neither read presets from DX-DXi...
Because of advances there's alot in the way in version 7 but better workflow it sure took them long enough... You can still make great music in either...
Version 7 works great in XP as does 1.8 but 1.8 you can run in windows 98 as well...
Next to test CPU-RAM efficiency...
1.8 had many skins hard to believe-

What drives me absolutely mad in Reaper is the routing. Why can't i just do a rightclick on output and send it to a bus? Why do I have to do press routing -> uncheck that it sends to master -> select the channel I want to sent it to?
I route things so often, that this is literally a breaker for me.

You dont have to. Just drag the routing button onto the channel you want to route to, whether it's a bus or individual track, that's all. It's drag and drop.iTzPrime wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2024 8:04 pm What drives me absolutely mad in Reaper is the routing. Why can't i just do a rightclick on output and send it to a bus? However, after the above, if you decide you don't want the track to go to the master track, that's when you click the routing button and uncheck send to master. And with that you are right that it takes two clicks.

If I remember right there was a modifier key to hold when clicking on the routing icon to uncheck it from the master... cannot remember exactly though as I use the second method...Dwomoh wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2024 10:22 pm ...

Second there should be considered that Reaper has actually a Folder = Bus architecture so I think it´s not many people affected by this as the majority probably use folders for bussing...

Alt+drag routing button to any other track to create a send and disable master/parent send.iTzPrime wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2024 8:04 pm What drives me absolutely mad in Reaper is the routing. Also you can Alt+click the routing button to disable (or re-enable) master/parent send.

I have to do that uncheck for master for every channel, so sadly a lot more than two clicks.Dwomoh wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2024 10:22 pmYou dont have to. ok that is nice. Is there a way to bus different tracks to one without creating a folder?Niowiad wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 7:24 am For check/uncheck send to master, the default shortcut is Alt+click.
At least I think that's in the default configuration, but that's what I use all the time.
Alt+click works for several channels at one, sadly the alt+drag doesn't work if I have multiple tracks selected.NAD wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 7:29 amAlt+drag routing button to any other track to create a send and disable master/parent send.iTzPrime wrote: Sat Jul 06, 2024 8:04 pm What drives me absolutely mad in Reaper is the routing. Shift-Drag is the default for dragging multiple track sends to a bus.
There is a Routing button right-click menu too which has a bunch of send/receive options.
The Routing Matrix is also your friend. : )

Buss Driver script is great for quickly routing things in bulk.

No matter how you look at it, complex routing in Reaper is a bitch. I used Reaper intensively for over a decade, including writing my own scripts and building a massively customized setup, and I always hated the routing system.
Folders as a bus is nice for simple stuff, but as soon as you need several nested layers of channels and buses, it starts to look like a surrealistic painting instead of a DAW.

Reaper does not have all the features of Cubase or Logic for that matter.

I'm pretty sure that Cubase and Logic do not have all the features of Reaper... But who cares, really?

Hard to compare features really. One DAW might have a nice cushy 1 click solution for something you want to do, but it might be buried in twenty sub menus. Another DAW might be able to give you the same result, but it might take using 3 tools in sequence to get there.

Have a look at this youtube video on various themes available.Amberience wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 8:41 am there isn't a single theme out there that rivals Cubase; particularly the mixer.
