If I'd put Pigments VA up against OB-1, Pigments would sound absolutely wimpy and gutless.
OB-1 can be a rock crusher. :tu:
That's a bit like comparing a spanner to a hammer though. You could pound a nail in with a spanner, but it isn't the best way to go about it. And trying to turn a bolt with a hammer is not likely to work at all.

They are both digital trying to emulate analog.

I have Pigments and like it, but think that the VA section is the weakest link.

But one does far more than that.

So the little hammer on a multi-tool should be compared to a 28oz framing hammer? All I'm saying is it's not really comparative. Maybe compare to the many others that have recently come out as a specific VA. Mariana, LegendHZ, Axxess, etc.
Pigments is in a another class.

Just comparing a VA to another VA.
The thought probably wouldn't have even crossed my mind, but someone brought up Pigments on the page before this one, and I responded to it.

I heard it right away and just actually compared them side by side and I give it a 2/5 for emulation.
The OB 1 is a very simple synth and the power is in the pure and raw sound of the oscillators, filter and the tight snappy envelopes. This emulation offers none of that.

The OBX emulation on the other hand is very good and I even prefer that over the OBX8.
I definitely prefer this to the OBX but haven't heard any of the precursors so I don't know how accurate either is. 2/5 is pretty bad :?. Since you have one, I would be very interested in knowing whether envelope depth is correct in the plugin. At maximum it does not even get close to opening the filter fully when the cut off knob is low.

What does "correct" mean? Two OB-1s from 40+ years ago. They modeled it on theirs. Whos knows how differently it's calibrated compared to someone else's OB-1.

Erm... you think the one Dave was playing in the OB-1 video they released a week before the plugin was released (hence why we all thought an OB-1 plugin was following along) was, what, imaginary..?

Yes, they have a good selection of classic Oberheim's, don't worry, as well as access to Tom and Marcus and plenty of other friends who also have plenty of vintage classics too...

No, not GForce, the poster here. Some people like to crap on things for fun. He may have one of course, and it may need a damn good service. No doubt GForce keep their gear in top shape.

Also, it's similar to threads about Monark/Diva/Legend. All were modelled on diff pieces of hardware, so will sound a bit different (but should all be very close really)

Spot on. For me personally I'm more concerned with is the "flavor" there and it certainly is in the case of their Oberheim stuff.

Are you on PC? On my Mac everything looks retina sharp.
On a Mac Studio with a fairly standard 1920 x 1080 display
The UI is just bad (for me). Very hard to read/see - and I almost never say that, and never before about a gforce synth. It's the #1 reason I'm not getting the synth.

#1: poor UI (1440p on a 27" BenQ photographer's display)
#2: CPU hog (practically unusable at my preferred audio settings)
#3: sounds too much like the other gforce synths I have

Wish gforce would innovate and create something original.

Post

What's up with GForce and CPU hogs? Did they ever say they're going to optimize impOSCar 3? Since i tend to ignore all the CPU hogs i already have and almost never use them, i'm not inclined to buy more.
