Music created with U-he synths

These songs all offer a theme, some tension, and a surprise from an unpredicted harmony, rythmic element, or instrument choice. Quite cinematic, and movies/tv these days need all the help they can get. I suppose 'Hymn To Our Lady Of Limitless Space' and Chrism Becomes Crown' are my favorites, but the others are not lacking. Lots of mood in the music.

apertureburn,
Just listened to "Found in Fog": sounds very nice. Kind of reminds me of Depeche Mode (a compliment).

Here's a little light-hearted background music made with Hive 2:

Thanks for listening and the feedback guys, and dm is definitely an influence
Had lots of fun with this.
glokraw, your new song sounds great. I'd probably cut the length of it in about half, but that's just me

Glad you like the music, and thanks for commenting! You make an interesting point, as others also have, about song length. In my case, a lot of songs might be considered as background music, hopefully inspiring thought, relieving stress, and stirring up memories.apertureburn wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 9:41 pm Thanks for listening and the feedback guys, and dm is definitely an influenceHad lots of fun with this.

In my Spotify playlist, there are 83 songs under 8 minutes in length, and serve a slightly different purpose, expressing events, locations, and relationships. The linux spotify client allows sorting by 'duration'. Rick Beato has many interesting videos with industry leaders, discussing the nature of music, listening, and popularity. An example:
In any case, we are always free to stop playing a song for any reason, and I do so often enough with my own music, which occupies 98 % or so of my listening time
It is also easy to trim or lengthen songs, by way of cut, copy, and paste. And I would be honored if someone liked one of my songs enough to improve it in their estimation
Cheers

I came across a slap bass and drum recording on the internet called "Em Slap Bass" by MMMBass (he is from Japan). I thought his slap bass playing was really fantastic, and he agreed to let me add more to it. I added more drums, all guitar, vocals, keyboards (includes Repro-5), and some studio trickery (plenty of Presswerk compression). Please tell me how you like it and how it can be improved, and I will return the favor. The resulting title is "Em Slap Bass-Go With The Flow", and is at the top of this link:

Things I liked:
The intro was tight, interesting, and not drawn out for filler. Russ Freeman would approve, I'm sure.
The rythm guitar crunch is excellent, complimenting the leads.
The overall timing/tempo felt right.
I enjoyed the drum track. Perhaps noticing percussion things more while focussing on hearing the slap-bass?
The cymbals are well done. I know nothing about compression, so I assume your work helps glue the band together at the right levels.
Mixing with/over the slap bass was effective, nothing sounded like add-ons. The bass presence throughout is apparent, and the player's skillz are easy to appreciate.
I think the swirly vocal at 1:00-1:15 minute mark didn't quite fit the overall eq and punchyness, but using 'choppy' vocals as rhythmic counterpoint to the horns might work, and the horns were very Rippingtons-like.
The Repro and lead guitar sounds are fine, and well played.
Here's a Rick Beato interview with a bassist who also can slap, I wonder if the two bassists have conversed/met etc ?
Cheers

glokraw,
Thank you for checking out my song and commenting, I appreciate it! MMMBass does not speak English. He uses an ap to communicate with me. That woman in the Beato video can play extremely fast, maybe too fast at times. Now listening to "A Walk with the Broken Hearted": that's all Hive 2? It almost sounds like sampled harp and some other acoustic instruments. Sounds nice and relaxing. Nice!

Thanks for listening! Hive has tons of fun pluk sounds to play with. I used Replika as a delay, and it has some sizzle that stays active for a while, effecting newly arriving pluks a little. Something like a little XS Trance Pizzicato, preceding HS Release The Tremolo, but with almost all effects off, then add back some external effects. I'm not familiar with tons of them, nor with Hive's effects, so wind up sticking with a familiar bakers dozen or so, and their various presets.
I put in a request each year for 30-hour days, to aid learning, but never get a reply from the boss on that particular subject.

Liking a song more when listening a second time, is a good sign. I'm a sucker for the cadence you used, as it reminds me of a theme from a favorite movie, 'The Shipping News'. I enjoyed your sound selection and dynamics, nicely theatrical, and not over-the-top. The film-score portion I refer too is only lightly touched on in the piece below, but you might like it. It's more prominent in other parts of the score. Might even be a woodwind sound in Tyrell to add over your nice synth sounds?
Cheers

Hive Song Saturday was somewhat of a success, two songs, quite different themes, but U-he synths are as versatile as they are fun to play! Some of the percussion in this is from Wusikstation
