I should follow up and say the one really nice thing about Softube and the Model series is being able to use parts of them as modules in Softube Modular. If I were a Modular user I'd probably be more likely to buy this one as well to be able to use the bits and bobs inside of Modular.

Probably as about as close as its going to get given that Model 80 is a rev3 emulation. And of course the one nice thing about software is its much easier to have multiple instances in the DAW.
Starsky did a great comparison as usual:

On the one hand, do I need another VA. On the other hand it's a Softube CS-80. Hmmm.

It would be a whole lot nicer if they'd update Modular! That piece of software is absolutely horrendous to use. The usability of that piece of software is abysmal. Kinda ironic how Softube touts themselves as great UI designers in the blurb about the CS-80 (or in general they seem to think very highly of themselves in this regard).DashOfLime wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 5:41 pm I should follow up and say the one really nice thing about Softube and the Model series is being able to use parts of them as modules in Softube Modular. Someone mentioned they heard from Softube at Superbooth that a Modular update will be done in "late Summer".bmanic wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 5:53 pmIt would be a whole lot nicer if they'd update Modular! It's the Modular & Amp Room bits & bobs that will swing it for me, even though Modular is a pig to use, & Amp Room's loading times for a patch is stupidly long

You should never do this, friend.
The CS-80 has always sounded really bland to me. I think it's one of those synths that's become misunderstood because of its rarity. It was famous more for its performance capabilities at the time. Without post-processing effects, it has a boring dry sound, and I can't imagine reaching for this over something more interesting. If I had to use a CS-80 emulation, I'd most likely use the Arturia version because of its more advanced features. The monophonic modules for Modular have even less appeal.

Ahh you are on Gearspace saying the same thing.
All the softube model series are exceptional imho, and I would buy all unheard. Even if they made synths I had no interest in like the Andromeda. Why? Doing my part to show support to make sure they continue churning them out.
I do music for tv and film. The cs-80 will always come in handy in those fields imho.
To each his own.
Anyway I bought it this morning and it is already in two projects.

I got the arturia one about 18 months ago. It didnt even make my template. That one to me is boring. I do wish softube had more presets however.

Yes, he is using a lot of effects and yes not all sounds are coming from his cs-80.
But from the time I heard this when it was possted to now I find it awesome use of the cs-80

I can't understand that. Buying a plug-in completely unheard is wild to me, but even more so buying a plug-in you have no interest in simply to "do your part" to make sure other people keep making money.zvenx wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 11:02 pm All the softube models are exceptional and I would buy all unheard. That's ok.. you don't have to understand it.
I earn my living from music, it is well worth it for me.
For the Tools that I depend on, from developers that I love their work, and inspire what I do.. yep.. worth it for me.

Korg recently addressed this with their new ARP 2600 VSTI and they said it is necessary for the synth engine to be running all the time to get a more accurate, realistic analogue emulation.mi-os wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 12:50 pmWhy should playing no notes hog the CPU as much as actually playing the max 8 notes or even multiple instances of that?
After playing through the presets on this thing, I tend to agree with you. Still, a VSTi version for less than $100 still seems like it might be worth having, doesn't it?
How would that work? Would it snap both layers to the same values or would it edit the unseen layer relative to the one you're actually working on? If it did the snap thing, would it snap every parameter at once or only do it as you change a parameter? Honestly, I don't see any value in it, it gets too complicated. As someone pointed out, just work on one layer and copy it to the other when you're done.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 1:34 pmShift is fine for quick edit of both. But would be much better if there was an actual button to engage to go into a mode to edit both without needing to hold shift.
That's true of most vintage synths. When I wanted to get rid of my TB-303s, I literally had to give them away because nobody was willing to pay for them. 10 years later they would have been worth thousands.D-Fusion wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 4:22 pmFun fact: In 1993 You could get them for as low as $300 if you found the right seller. That is how popular the the CS80 was in the past
If you really can't imagine supporting a company or a person just because you appreciate what they do, I'd suggest that probably indicates that your are, like most people these days, completely self-centred to the point of narcissism. I mean, it is no different to giving money to a charity.bonch wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 11:15 pmI can't understand that.
