Before your blood pressure rises too high: wait and see! Watch the first YT videos with reviews! Install the demo version as soon as it's available!

Maybe you can be upset about the changes, maybe not. But it's definitely too early for that.

I watched it from the very beginning and that's exactly what he did.
A big chunk of Reaper development isn't just music production but people doing video game scoring, creating sample libraries, post-production, etc. and they get a fair amount of the development attention.
All of which is actually just music production (while we're being "nit-picky").
concealed identity wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2024 1:27 pmIf you look at it as having to upgrade every year to stay up-to-date, then it looks like you're getting a raw deal here. It's possible that you'd be getting just as many features in one year as you were getting every two years until now, but that's a real gamble.
Fine if all you see in updates/upgrades is new features but the most important thing about them to me is improved stability/robustness. I'd like to see it use less CPU, less memory and for it to take up less space on my drive. Those things mean far more to me than any new feature I can think of.
The only concern I have is if you get bug fixes after your year is up- if the last version you have just happens to be a buggy one, that's some bad luck and would really upset me. I would hope that bug fixes come until you've got a license for a stable version, similar to how their recently-announced subscription/permanent license system worked.
I see no reason why they would, it would require the dev's to maintain far too many code-bases to be practical.
jens wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2024 2:00 pmOh, is that what happened? He lost interest? I seem to remember him saying that he simply didn't sell enough copies of Orion to warrant further development.
Yeah but I doubt he ever did sell enough but he kept at it anyway.
And why did he not sell enough copies? My assumption always was that he listened far too much to a certain moron.
Subtle! The reality is that his idea of what's important and mine happen to align quite closely in a number of areas. I'm not sure that I ever asked Rich for any particular thing in Orion, I was always happy with whatever he wanted to do. When I've asked for things in DUNE or any other VSTi, I've been ignored most of the time.

But the fade in/out handles on the top edges of the clips are also gone. Did they remove cross-fade functionality? It looks like a toy for playing with loops now.
Chill. Nothing has been removed, including the scratchpad.
How can you think that a DAW might be removing the basic fade/crossfade functionality??
You talk about them like only very experienced audio operators can understand and use them

OMG i just saw a screenshot. What a mess.

Here's the response (no one cares I know but I am going to say it anyway).

My condolences.

HHHhhhaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

hhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaahaaa

It took them several years of backbouncing with the licensing scheme and what turns into what. I still remember public outrage just several months ago when it was so bad they started blaming store technical difficulties.

Now they supposedly landed on how licensing is going to be moving forward. But they let the crazies run the DAW development division now. And you get a pile of nonsense now.

You need to be patient and wait several years so they clean up the mess they started doing right now.

And worst of all is that the "public" or the user pool gets to eat this poo under the disgusting premise of "this is what users wanted".

hhahahahahhaaaa so My Condolences.

It was a nice story back then when they launched

Maybe someone should tell them that the days of Ibizia and likes are over hahahahahahahaa

 :hihi: :D

It takes talent, vision and resistance to keep a program clean. IMHO only Live and Logic succeeds it. Studio One used to look nice and clean. Unfortunately with more features added without prioritizing the looks and simplicity, it started to turn into Cubase.

I don't see any improvements on keeping program clean from Live or Logic Pro compared to Studio One. Especially Live arranger window is sh*ty to navigate compared to S1.

As I mentioned earlier, Studio One 6 introduced the ability to hide any interface element. That gives an enormous ability to keep it clean, and it’s the only thing that makes these new “features” bearable.

Except for the rounded clip containers. That, I cannot abide.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Its why I left Cubase (about V8) and went to S1 (about V4 I think). Live is now what I use most often...they managed to add so much in V12 without adding any clutter, it still looks clean and inviting to me, I get stuff done and have fun!

I will wait and see...updating isn't mandatory (nor is using new features) and I am happy with 6 so nothing bad has happened- updating less (on all software) is in my future, I have too much of everything as it is!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I'm not happy that they eliminated the Artist version. That was enough for me, in the future I will be forced to switch to Pro. I will change Daw.

I still don't understand why they have those rectangles with sharp cut corners (English isn't my native, so forgive me if it's not clear). This applies to the top bar, the bottom bar and some other elements. Sure, that might be a part of Studio One's "look", but it really dates it IMO and only adds to more inconsistency now that some elements are more rounded.

Those sharp cut corners have to go. Maybe instead they could make it a full rectangle or alternatively they could make the backgrounds of the top and bottom bars a consistent solid color, but add separators where needed.

Oh and the faders...just no. They need to be replaced entirely.

Anyway, that's my not-asked-for design advice.

This is a quick little redesign I did. Look at the top and bottom bars. It's not perfect, but a bit closer to my vision.

On another forum there's talk of donating the $149 to charity and just downloading 'Jack Sparrow's' copy of Pro 7, lol.

Not condoning piracy just to be clear. I own Studio One Pro 4, 5 and 6.

I didn't notice that sharp corners is something that annoys me, but rounded looks better.
