People need to relax. Splice is just an easier form of crate diving for samples you could do something with. The fact that most musicians aren't very creative with samples, is not something new, and not something that will never change.

Splice preview is available without paid plan. So it is useful to check what rhythms and timbers can be matched for your track.

Have you tried Luna. Seems like the type of DAW you want and for sure not getting any of this type of features. It is also free I think.jamcat wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 1:26 am
Yes, that's right. Or at least it was. Studio One was always the DAW for scoring dignified music, not cheap thrills. A different caliber of musician used Studio One: Refined gentlemen of exquisite taste. Now, our once great bastion lays in ruins, as it is sacked by the uncivilised hordes of beatmakers.
Record/Edit/Mix and keep your dignity.

What's the best DAW for dinosaur music these days? I need there to be minimal hippin' and hoppin', and absolutely no bippin' nor boppin'.

Does anyone know if you can record from the launcher (thus switching scenes and clips ) into the timeline ?
If not , this would be a huge misser .

So did you count them, or what?jamcat wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 1:54 amBeing that 99.9% of people on KVR are making ambient electronic soundscapes, I think the idea of being a vocalist is lost on most, as is writing a song with a definitive beginning, middle, and end.BONES wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 12:41 am The best way I can put it is that I think of myself as a vocalist

Hear hear - and yet you wrote:BONES wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 5:03 am Abso-fuckin'-lutely! In fact, the idea of writing an actual song is lost on the vast majority of them
BONES wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 12:41 amIsn't that kind of how everyone works? That's certainly how I've always done things.Christ, I'll just load up Studio One most of the time just to play around and if something strikes a cord I'll either save it for later or go full steam ahead and get the track down as quickly as possible.
couldn't make this crap up....

That’s not the issue here, it’s the fact many of us have hundreds of gigabytes of our own content we would like to use. Instead of Presonus creating their own native browser with better technology, they’ve opted to contract a 3rd party developer who require a subscription service to use the features S1 should have provided natively.Amberience wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 8:52 am People need to relax. Can you imagine if this becomes a trend where Daw developers decide to sub contract features that require subscriptions to use features ?
This isn’t a good sign imo. So the question still remains, how do artists and producers who have their own content and want to remain true to their own source material use these features without having to use Splice ?
For me it’s 3rd party browsers right now. I’ve been very vocal on trying to get Presonus to add tagging to user content for 15 years now, all to end up with Splice ?
So my question still remains, how do we get Splice to recognize User content?
Anyone ?

Honestly, it wouldn't bother me if Studio One didn't have a browser at all. It seems like something for disorganised people, not for competent professionals.
Or, you could look at it from the perspective that it's there for those who aren't creative enough to make or find their own samples?Amberience wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 8:52 amPeople need to relax. It does actually look like just the kind of thing Jamcat would be into. I might give it a whirl myself. The price is very attractive, although I notice that the Windows version is still in beta.andypryce wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 10:19 amHave you tried Luna. Is English your second language? Or third, maybe? There is no contradiction there at all - "play around and if something strikes a cord I'll either save it for later or go full steam ahead and get the track down as quickly as possible." That applies as much to a proper song as to anything else. To be fair, I never save anything for later. If it's an idea that's working, it will be a song before I go to bed. Maybe not finished but with at least a basic verse/chorus structure. Most of the time that will also include some of the lyrics, because an idea normally only takes root when I've got a vocal line that makes it work. I can only think of one song I've written in 40 years that didn't come together in a single session and that one took 17 years.

I'm pretty sure you know that English isn't my native language - but it'll have to do...
the thing is:
In German we have a certain proverb:
"Unter den Blinden ist der Einäugige König" - "Amongst the blind the one-eyed is king."
You feel all smug because you somehow managed to find your way to a mic to shout
some stuff in and thus apparently feel the need talk big words about you writing songs and what not, as opposed to those hoards of cretins far inferior to you, and yet - by your own admission - you can't even imagine someone actually sitting down with a pen and paper and an instrument to write a song.
That seems comically absurd to me.
Did I manage to somehow make myself understood now or is my Engrish just too terrible for that?

Just getting back to Studio One 7 for a minute ... I don't think it's a case of "beatmakers" vs "musicians" because few of us fall 100% into either camp. But this update is very firmly for a certain user group (those who use splice, impact, loops etc) and doesn't offer anything to those that don't. Much like 6 didn't offer much to those who have no interest in atmos.
So, I'll skip 7 but will be interested to see what 7.Q1.25 brings

Hey everyone just wanted to share a huge tip for me at least.
The s1 browser has had a huge update in the loops section. As a former logic user I figured there was some sort of way s1 had untagged loops like logic. I mounted my sample folder as a sound set. I deleted all of s1s loop packs. Now I have a highly functioning browser. When I search top and loop to jam cats tears my top loops show up completely even if they were separated with dashes etc. The only thing that still sucks is its best to search words individually. The reason I recommend deleting the s1 loops is my loops were showing below the s1 loops everytime in the search which I didn’t like. They have some amazing sound content but if this is what I have to do to fix the browser this is what I will do

Since Studio One is not my main DAW (and S7 doesn't even really push it in that direction), I'll just hold out until Black Friday and hope that: (a) the first update addressing the inevitable bugs from v7.0 is released before then, (b) there are some better BF deals to be had, and (c) the extension of the 6-month subscription service by nearly two months gets me one more update than I would get if I update now.SLiC wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2024 9:18 pm Yeh, great update…weird pricing. You can get a 6 months subscription with a perpetual licence included for 99 bucks at Sweetwater- that seems to be the cheapest way to get pro7
