If you are OK working like that, which we are definitely not. Once you render out the stems, you've ruled a line under the song and you'll never change it again. Our songs are living, breathing things, they change over time, just as we all do.
On the other hand, every great artist needs someone to whack them on the head and tell them "It's finished."

1: Studio One Perpetual full ...£166 ($214)

2: Studio One+ 12 months ….£125 ($161)

Both end up being a perpetual licence.

It would seem to me that 2: is the better deal providing it’s easy to cancel.

Whether or not 2: can be upgraded in the future seems moot, as the price difference between a full version and an upgrade is currently negligible.
After having bought 1 year of S1Pro + (=subscription) you can go directly after into your account and cancel the subscription that you don´t pay for a second year when the time has come if you wish so...
This doesn´t affect that you bought the 1 year so you can use it for this time with all of the "+" extras...
After the year and you don´t renew your "plan" (how they call it) you get the perpetual license of the last official version which was included in your subscription as it ended...
You lose though the access of the "+" extras which are not included in the perpetual licence like the additional Mix Engine FX, most of the soundbanks etc...
This license is afaik not different to a bought perpetual license you bought directly and the year of updates has ended...

Yes, I believe this is 100% correct after researching the last couple days. I want to add one thing if I may (I read someone was wondering), the reason why the subscription is cheaper than the perpetual license is so to lock you into paying another year if you don't unsubscribe, and to increase the chance you don't want to unsubscribe by presenting the bonuses to you, that you may use and miss once you unsubscribe. The marketing is all lined up psychologically for that train, so everyone has to move from non-pro (or pro) versions onto the one year upgrade do-or-don't path.

What if you already had perpetual licenses for those?

You pay for that perpetual, over and over again, year after year, if you stay on subscription.
- it would make more sense for pay for addon subscription and keep perpetual out of it
- $99 or so annually
- $180 annually is rediculous

Not much makes sense in Presonus new policy.
- where do new to StudioOne enter at a reasonable cost?

Will be interesting to see what BF brings in campaigns....

I think your perpetual licenses will never vanish... so you may need to authorize them again with your perpetual license after expiring with the end of the subscription but perhaps it does it automatically or even authorize the ones you own directly with the perpetual license instead of the subscription...
Long story short: I am pretty sure the stuff you "own" will continue to work in any case...

This might have been true before but now you just have 2 options:

1. to pay 149,-€ for another year of updates
2. to pay 180,-€ and get a whole bunch of stuff additionally way worth far more than this 31,-€ difference...
Either way you have the same perpetual non updating license (and same version number) for S1 until you pay again...

If you like some of the S1 goodies you´ll get with the "+" version it´s imho the far better deal...
Just if you know you´ll not pay again for a longer time it´s not making much sense to get used to the extras and not being able to use them after this year...
But if you plan to update regulary the "+" version has much more to offer for just a few bucks more...

That other stuff is worth way less than 31€ if you don’t use any of it. For me the only addons that I want are the MixFX, and I already bought them all years ago. I’m not going to pay rent on stuff I already own.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

If you are sure that you don´t will use any of them, of course... use the "normal" system...
I don´t own any of the add ons and I wouldn´t buy them at this price... for me it would be worth it...
Just a matter of POV and your personal situation... :tu:

Only if you're a f**king moron and can't work it out for yourself. But what was "finished" in 2003 can be made much better with the technology available in 2024.

We've managed to make six albums without them, I can't see why I'd suddenly need them now.

What are the advantages of Studio One over Cubase that make people use it instead

Man, those upgrades better be mind blowing. FL is free for upgrades for life......

Not everyone likes the Bitwig upgrade system that Presonus seems to have taken on. I sure dont, but not everyone feels the same as me. I have a S1 version 6 license, I wont upgrade unless its a huge upgrade to features, and UI. If its the same ol, same ol, then no I wont do it. FL Studio keeps bangin out great updates, and its free. You really cant beat that model.
This is 100% how I feel. Studio One 6 and FL studio for me for the time being.

Sorry Bones... what a statement... :tu:

Would you agree that different people have different needs/workflows/plugins??
If you don´t see any reason to use them... same to you... just take the "normal" version...!

Wait , studio one 7 perpetual now comes with all with mix-fx , or is it for the subscription plan only ?
This alone is worth the upgrade for me .
