Yes, it's because of the summing engine expansions. At the moment you can choose between API Console Summing and Neve Console Summing engines. I always thought it was a bit of an odd choice of where to spend development money, and kinda assumed they were going for the live musician/gig market

As for the live musician, I believe Ableton Live has pretty much established itself as the default program for that purpose, with additional input from Native Instruments Maschine etc. They basically did it long ago, before most of the big names and they did it very well, so.
