Ou_Tis wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 11:52 am Also, yesterday Plugin Boutique said the Tone Foundry sale on Pigments presets was going to end January 31st, but I see the sale is still on today, and marked as a sale---with no specified end date. However when I go to the "deals" page---which always specifies end dates---and sort by price, lowest to highest, the Tone Foundry individual expansion packs don't even show up, just their bundles, with end date February 28th.
From my experience with Plugin Boutique, they don't update anything on weekends. So if a sale goes through Friday, they won't update it until the following Monday- same goes for their monthly freebie.

Also, some sales are near-permanent; Plugin Boutique has different themed sales every month and developers opt in, so there are some developers that are constantly running near-identical sales on there.

Also also, their search and way of listing things is terrible. I think the Deals page doesn't list individual plugins a lot of the time if a developer is discounting multiple ones. And the sale end dates only seem to be viewable from certain pages and can often be hard to find :?

I want to upgrade Korg Prophecy to Collection 5 at plugin boutique (its ~20€ cheaper there) but they say I am not eligible cause I bought Prophecy directly from Korg.
Any idea why they even care whether I am eligible?

Did you contact their support? If not, I would make an attempt - https://help.pluginboutique.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Maybe Korg’s system only checks eligibility at the time of purchase.

In more serious news -- I wonder if this is being given as a free gift because they're going to discontinue it shortly? I don't think it's been updated in over a year...
There could also be V2 around the corner.
so its free but lets worry about the possibility of a future version. Do they erase that one you have?
Does it have to be erased to become a future problem?
It is already a current problem it seems -- I can reproduce a crash in Cubase 14 with Backbone by control clicking in the Filter panel after enabling resynthesis.

Yes, for me...a FREE program from a major DAW maker could only be a problem if the maker of the FREE program somehow erased the version I got when a new one came out. Otherwise..the FREE program that I would be using for FREE to make music would still be useful and likely the path to an upgrade , saving me money because the original was FREE.

So a FREE program is a problem because one user has a crash.I've done lookups last few days on Backbone havent seen mention of this crash. I think I'll go ahead and try the FREE program since as a Cubase user its a Steinberg product and its FREE.

Its truly stunning how far some folks will go in this forum to deride a great deal. Its like a demented passion to squash any excitement that actual music makers could get. WOW!

sounds like you need more backbone

You have an odd description of 'free' considering this requires purchase.

Besides, I'm getting at something else. And that's not to introduce new things into your life that will likely eventually become problematic over time. And if software ('free' or not) is buggy and/or no longer being developed well then we have an issue. Because I suspect you will want to use this software for more than a few months, right?

I look at software in the long term. I'm not looking for a honeymoon phase excitement to judge whether it adds value or not. I want to have some level of security that it is going to be reliable for years in advance, regardless of price. Do you not do the same?

Post

Not for a "free with purchase" or otherwise bundled in product.
I have a large folder of yet to be tried or tried and forgotten software. They didn't cost anything but some time and sometimes even added a perspective leading to other things.

Uncle E, are you going to sell Reason Studios Reason 13 Upgrade for Adapted / Essentials / Intro / Limited / Lite for sale price - $150?

I'll ask them.

Backbone is amazing and not just for drum hits.

Back to the Lexicon subject. The PCM reverb suite is the best reverb in the box. Especially the Random Hall algo.

If only it was a little cheaper.

(It has been said though that a version that still supported RTAS -and maybe not even the last one that did- was the best sounding one and things had to be changed in an update that resulted in change in the sound, I am not sure if the RTAS version can still be downloaded).
