It would be nice to be able to do this without having to remember to turn off the internet every time. I looked but couldn't find a separate software that does this check (so I could rename it or something like that).jancivil wrote: Sun Mar 09, 2025 9:22 pm
Here if wifi is on it takes 30 to 40 seconds. With wifi off it doesn't do this. It says it does the check but it took like a second. The preset I loaded subsequently happened fast AF. The performance is actually stellar.
Is the core library the same for BFD3.5 and BFD3.4.5.28?

I have to be fair! The folks at InMusic contacted me about the issue of long loading times for each instance of BFD.
However, this is a completely standard response. Do you think anything will change? Conclude for yourself...

Did you try it with WIFI off ? Just curious.
Or maybe those 30s are an incentive to get up have a microstretch to improve our posture?

Yeah, that works especially well with e.g. UAD plugins.
And just to make sure: the current version of BFD is completely unuseable on my machine. In fact I can't even close the preferences window once I opened it.

I have no problem waiting for sounds to load from a plugins library (e.g. SampleTank) but not if it's for an authorization process. Authorization should be kept hidden and separate from the creative process not be a part of it. It's either instantaneous or it's unusable. I'll be keeping a close eye on this.KIMCHRISTOPHER wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 12:49 pm I have to be fair! Apart from that I think the new GUI changes are nice. Proper scaling would be even better.
Right now there's a huge black box around BFD3 in FL Studio, dragging and resizing resizes the black box as well as the plugin. The standalone and in Cubase it's fine.
I have the core library from the earlier version installed on a 2nd drive, just needed to re-direct the new plugin to it and everything was fine.

I've been unhappy with the 90-day license thing, so I haven't really been using BFD. If inMusic goes away, the maximum amount of time that BFD will still be usable is 90 days. That's insane. So the only feature of BFD that I appreciated was the fast loading time. And now that's apparently gone away.
The only thing that I don't like about Addictive Drums is the slower load time.
For this reason, I have uninstalled BFD instead of upgrading. It's just not worth it to me.
Honestly, I miss DR008.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

But for anyone that acquires this, know what you're doing, inMusic knows basically nothing about BFD Drums in my experience thus far. Ask somebody on a forum or that if stumped.
most definitely not working offline here and continues to take an excessive amount time to load. fyi, dedicated Win10 Pro production system which boots up and stays offline except for upgrade downloads (2hrs over for the core library...) and we think we're pretty disciplined with best practices for robust sw installations.
noting reports of successful installations elsewhere, working through some (non-AI) support, could be a combination of minor bugs and/or "synchronization/conflict" issues with previous installations but hard to tell what to expect without any deets on exactly what "authorization" process they're trying to enforce. still a wip...

Doesn’t work offline for me either.
The scans are fairly quick though, once I got through the first one. I had to download all my expansions again, Drew said that he did a lot of metadata updating in the old libraries and I had some presets that wouldn’t load properly, all good after reinstalling the expansions. Drew also said in a post on the BFD forum that the scanning would be sped up in the future. I expect that may not be for a while, updates are usually few and far between. I’m hoping it happens sooner though to button up the 3.5 release.
I don’t like the need to be always online, but I still prefer BFD for my main realistic drum software. The decision is for each of us to make. I’ve put a fair bit of money into BFD over the years, as many of you probably have as well, and there’s nothing making it unusable for me, I can continue to work with it, whether I’m fully pleased with the authorization system or not. I personally have no reason not to continue getting value for my money at this point - no reason to sink any more money into it either though. With the pace of development, I suspect that V4 is probably some ways away from reality, that would be my next decision whether to spend more on this system. I’m not walking away yet. All that said, 3.5 seems to be operating smoothly for me and I’m liking it, apart from the authorization thing.

60 seconds! Imagine if every plugin took 60 seconds to load. Say you were producing music for 1 hour, you could easily in total add, maybe, 30 plugin instances of various plugins to different tracks while producing or mixing. Now literally 50% of the productive time is spent waiting for plugins to load! All for their busted DRM which was already notoriously bad and no doubt helped lead to the product tanking in popularity compared to SD3. Unbeilevable.

No doubt, multiple plugins behaving like this would be madness. I want to believe that it’ll be sped up, as Drew has said so, only time will tell when that happens and how much it changes. Definitely a bad call to implement this and also to release it without making it faster first. Mine is taking the lower end of the time range to scan, but it needs to be addressed.

I should be shocked that "support" said 'expected behavior' with a half or whole minute thumbs twiddling but I'm merely appalled. It's been reported as a bug, and beta team does not characterize it as expected behavior (a definite category per response to bug reports).
Turning off wifi is a bit of PITA here on my host machine (where I prefer to have BFD) because my better connection can vanish now. My slave machine generally has it off, when working it has to be because it's networked to the host and wifi on is a known <never do>.
Yep, its popularity is sinking fast. I'm not in the business of selling things on these fora anymore though. It loads my presets fast AF and so far is generally unproblematic in usage so fuggit.
