I have it running on Sequoia with my M1 Mac Studio Max, but I installed it on Big Sur originallyTj Shredder wrote: Fri Apr 11, 2025 6:39 amOften the installer fails. That's what I did two days ago, even the C/R via the FXpansion licensing app worked, the sound is there but the transport animation is broken, so the patterns are playing but the interface is just displaying a static image.Tj Shredder wrote: Fri Apr 11, 2025 6:39 amOften the installer fails. I guess some installation files did not get over. Especially if its not a complete migration…Sampleconstruct wrote: Fri Apr 11, 2025 6:27 pmThat's what I did two days ago, even the C/R via the FXpansion licensing app worked, the sound is there but the transport animation is broken, so the patterns are playing but the interface is just displaying a static image.Tj Shredder wrote: Fri Apr 11, 2025 6:39 amOften the installer fails. The randomizer is one of the best features of battalion, imho.pekbro wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 6:36 am Imo the randomizer in Battallion is terrible, I just got Visco from Forever89, I like it way better than UAB...
The fact that you can lock any parameter, change different aspects, revert back to the original etc. makes it one of the most comprehensive randomisers in any plugin I've used.
Visco is great but it's a very different beast to Battalion.

Yea, my comment wasn't exactly a fair one, it's mostly the sounds it chooses and what it does to them that I'm not fond of. YMMV...kraster wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 8:47 amThe randomizer is one of the best features of battalion, imho.pekbro wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 6:36 am Imo the randomizer in Battallion is terrible, I just got Visco from Forever89, I like it way better than UAB...

*I do like Visco, batallion could learn a few things from it imo, again YMMV.

I'm pretty sure creating a smart randomizer for a drum synth is an immensely complex task, far beyond simply spinning the dials randomly. It should be musically useful and requires careful consideration of context, dependencies, and intelligent constraints under the hood.
Kicks, snares, hats, percussion all demand different parameter ranges and behaviors. A randomizer that applies changes blindly is likely to create chaotic, unusable results, which is also great for experimental stuff, and I’m a sucker for it!
Yes, parameter locking is key and absolutely essential for preserving certain aspects of a patch, especially if you’ve already dialed in key components like envelope shapes or pitch.
Timbre or genre weighted probabilities are also important. Weighting choices based on timbral categories (for example, soft versus hard, analog versus digital character, transient rich versus dull) or even style tags (like techno, trap, IDM) can drastically improve usability.
Range limiting and dependency awareness matter too. For example, tuning and filter cutoff might need to stay in a musically relevant relationship, or modulation depth should respond to the presence of envelopes or LFOs. I think these are essential to avoid broken patches.
Further, a percentage based depth (from 0 to 100 percent, like in Lion) lets you dial in from subtle tweaks to wild explorations, which is much more productive than an all or nothing roll.
Battalion, from what I’ve seen, has gone further than most plugins in this area.
I give huge credit to any dev building a randomizer with this kind of complexity. It is not a trivial feature by any stretch. In fact, I would argue it is one of the hardest things to get right in a drum synth plugin.

Drum synthesis is a very specific subset of synthesis and there isn't a massive amount of scope compared to melodic or overall sound design synthesis.
I think Microtonic might be the best example of a synth that stays within its scope.
Something like Battalion can go way off the beaten track into truly experimental territory but its feature set in terms of sound generation is way beyond Microtonic so it needs a lot more reigning in to get something more conventionally usable.
Luckily they've given enough features to allow for that in Battalion.
I was reading the Elektronauts thread about Battalion and there does seem to be ongoing development. They're finishing up the iOS release and then adding things like patterns (my number one request) and some kind of slicer.

no trick, it seems it was a mistake, something that happens with quite some resellers.... sometimes you get lucky.....GaryG wrote: Thu May 22, 2025 1:18 pmany trick to this? shows $124 for me (£93)telecharge wrote: Thu May 22, 2025 7:10 am Plugin Boutique has Battalion for $30 USD - https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/ ... -Battalion

IIRC, it happened once before with Battalion, $36 for some hours. I missed it that time. heh
