I'd say most of the crying comes from sycophants who can't stand it when the facts are presented to them.
Vital is not a "free synth" it is a commercial synth with a free tier and that was Matt's biggest mistake. He made the free tier just as featured as the Plus and Pro versions.
For the record if I'm posting here it's because I'm taking a break from working with a synth that makes Vital look like a children's toy (maybe that's the appeal to some, it's on their level
But all joking aside, Vital had potential to be a top level synth but the lack of development has seen it slip further and further into obscurity. Development of other synths in the niche has not stagnated.
For people who are broke Vital remains a viable option but for those who can afford synths that are more powerful and still supported then to me it's not something worth spending time with and apparently the developer agrees.
If brought back to life it could once again become relevant but there is no indication that it still has a pulse. It's open source so maybe the Surge Synth Team would be better equipped, motivated, and skilled to take the project further.
Ok I'm going to go back and work with a synth aimed at grown ups now.......
