I'm one of the ones who would have bought a pitchfork just to wave it at Spectrasonics if they fundamentally changed the UX. It works great and I don't want it changed.

But genuine question - what kind of concept would work for those who keep saying it looks Y2K? What is out there that has the vastness and complexity of Omnisphere that is much quicker and easier to use in practice?
From my perspective I don't want any significant changes to the UX. I highly suspect I am not alone in this

I would wager that the majority of revenue Spectrasonics will make from Omnisphere 3 over the next 12-18 months will come from people dropping $199 on upgrades

And I would also wager that the vast majority of those don't want any significant changes to the UX. Like me they want the look and feel of the product they have owned and have been using for a while

I think the new Global Controls for many users will be a Godsend and is the only significant UX change they need

One final thought for those who want a different UX for deeper sound design use cases. Get yourself a copy of Gig Performer 5 to use not just with Omnisphere but with any plugin you own. Why? Because you can quickly and easily use it to create any kind of GUI you want. With Omnisphere you would just expose whatever you want to include in your custom GUI to host automation. Then drag and drop knobs, faders, buttons, toggles, in what ever color you want, and whatever size you want onto your custom GUI (which Gig Performer calls a rack space) and assign them to one (or more) of those things you want to control and label it however you want. Each control can then be inverted, have its range limited, have a curve applied to them and basically be setup exactly how you want

It is and has been a bloat beyond belief of abstract ideas without any practical application. And still needs the other two (Trilian/Keyscape) to achieve a closer to omni tag.

Yeah, "Omnisphere as a concept. "
Tell me you don't understand deep synthesis without telling me you don't understand deep synthesis.

The only part of Omnisphere that I don't really use is the multitimbral aspects of it. I don't know what percentage of its functionality you consider that, so I'll just say I use 90% of it.

Don't you know unless you are sending a saw wave through a resonant filter it's just not synthesis

The part in the sonicstate video with Eric Persing in which he explains the inner workings of the Mutate function is fascinating. I'm glad they opted for a wise function that analyzes the timbre, mood and style of the sound to mutate instead of a complete random sound generator like most other synths have, which 95% of the time produces garbage. This Mutate thing will be crazy to generate all sorts of complementary sounds aligned with the same desired tone.

I do understand "deep synthesis" but I also understand that while it's fun, and artistic in its own right, it has far less use in most contexts of real application.

But I'm not and haven't said it's a bad plugin. The cult seeks to give me grief simply for denying it or its developers are god. And I continue to find that laughable.

*The "negative" points I make about it are simply:
*It's too expensive for what it is.
*It's bloated without real ways to streamline it.
*And 90% of its customer base creep me out.

The question(s) I posed is a basic of reality separate from emotion and has been around since the beginning of computers itself.
Consider them rhetorical and simply ask yourself;
What do you need, why do you need it and can you fill those and not be made to take what you don't need/want with it.

It's too late now, but I'd rather Spectrasonics had sold the plugin and offered the sound sources/patch presets separately so we could customize accordingly. Not be forced to take it all as one.

Imagine if the grocery store forced all their vegan customers to buy four different meats from their deli to make sure their butchers got their share. Coca-Cola dies this to their dealers. They make or control many brands, but demand that the stores buy an offset ratio of the other brands to Coke. Then they simply translate that into "Coke is the best seller".

The same is true for sound designers. They sell "packages" and then claim the ones they made for a specific genre is the most successful not realizing that the few that are not are what sold that package. Same is true for Spectrasonics. Usual and typical marketing and it will never change until the market finally says enough.

And I still notice most aren't answering the question and instead throwing out the usual deflections and deceptions.

Yeah mutate is going to be really cool. Also seems like an awesome thing to assign to a controller so you can just press the mutate button at any point

there are individuals here, not sure what 'cult' you are imagining...

it's not cheap. but, it's reasonable next to, for example, 5 other synth plugins combined. and if it fills that much space, seems like a good investment.

bloated? what's wrong with having more sounds, features, choices? easy enough to use what you want. but nice that there's a lot of choice if you want to explore, or try something different, new...

i want to change my game up, and replace 7 synth plugins (am bored with them; that's on me, not the synths). so i thought of replacing them all with omnisphere 3. why not? if that's what appeals to me.

So let's recap your negative points

You claim it's to expensive. Awesome that's your opinion but many people don't feel that way at all. Many people consider it to be a major bargain including myself. Considering the popularity of the plugin I would assume I am not the only one

You claim it's bloated with no real ways to streamline it. That just shows your inexperience with it and is not a reality shared by many users. What you call bloat I call options.

It's also a rather ignorant statement to say it can't be streamlined. What's ironic is there are many people who have experience with it in this very thread that talk about the speed of which they can use it as a plus. That would seem to indicate that many users don't find it bloated and find it to be EXTREMELY streamlined for what it does

Quite simply compared with other flagship options like Falcon it HALion7 you can often get the sound you want faster and easier (especially when compared with Falcon). Now if you want to compare it with synths with less features well that's awesome but then again that's pointless and not apples to apples
And I still notice most aren't answering the question and instead throwing out the usual deflections and deceptions.
What question hasn't been answered? Because it would seem not only has it been answered but it's been rightfully mocked

But you still have not shared with us what other options exist that can do what Omnisphere does. You have said they exist but when asked multiple times you can't answer

If clicking Check for Updates burned calories, I’d have abs by now. I swear the Spectrasonics website just sighed when I refreshed it again..

Maybe for your real application, but not for mine.

Who said Eric is god?
*The "negative" points I make about it are simply:
*It's too expensive for what it is.
As has been suggested, when you look at the supplied sample content, it actually seems in line with other sample libraries.
*It's bloated without real ways to streamline it.
What would you suggest? Being able to remove or hide sample content? It’s already got a browser that allows easy search.
*And 90% of its customer base creep me out
And yet here you are frequenting a thread about it. Me thinks the lady protests too much.
The question(s) I posed is a basic of reality separate from emotion and has been around since the beginning of computers itself.

I’m not sure I even understand the question. Are you just suggesting that we all live spartan lives and make music with as minimal tools as possible? Why not just suggest we all switch to harmonicas?
Imagine if the grocery store forced all their vegan customers to buy four different meats from their deli to make sure their butchers got their share. Coca-Cola dies this to their dealers. They make or control many brands, but demand that the stores buy an offset ratio of the other brands to Coke. Then they simply translate that into "Coke is the best seller".

Your analogy doesn’t work for me, because I see Omnisphere as the grocery store. Grocery stores don’t force you to buy anything, but provide access to a wide range of items. Is there a cost to that kind of one-stop-shopping? Sure. The space needs to be large, which means land has to be purchased or leased. Buildings have to be heated and cooled. Employees have to stock and maintain the space. Maybe I only buy 20% of the items from the store, but last night we tried to do our shopping at a small specialty grocery store and walked out without cooking sherry because they didn’t have it. So we had to go to another grocery store to get some, eliminating our time saving attempt.

Maybe you are the person who wants to go to a butcher for meat, baker for bread, etc. You can definitely find more variety of an item type, and higher quality than a large grocery store. I use those types of places when I’m shopping for specialty items. I still like a large grocery store because even if I don’t usually buy the canned sardines they have, maybe one day I’ll get an idea for how to add them to something.
