THANK YOU :hyper: :tu:

super excited to try the new CVlization firmware

…and replacing the BETA with the UHBIK 2.0 release
Urs wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 10:25 am Hi all,

Finally, we are this >< close to going beta with our firmware update for CVilization that includes a quad oscillator as an alternative mode. We're pretty much waiting for a nod from our QA guy who had been buried in testing for Uhbik and Zebra 3.

Cheers,

- U

Oh that's insane :)
Urs one question on UI: would there be dark on light skin? My eyes are old and they don't like dark themes and getting tired of them really fast.
I do not yet know if we can provide a dark and a light scheme from the start. We had a light scheme at NAMM, but people generally seemed to prefer the dark scheme as easier on the eyes.

However, if I understand our designer correctly, the new vector based UI can almost entirely be reskinned simply by changing colour values. We kind of "tint" the shapes inside the svg images. I'm totally sure that the theming community (Plugmon et al) will have a go at Zebra 3.
The shades of gray in the Hive 2 skin is very pleasing to the eyes. Maybe more in that direction? I agree with the other guy that the dark theme is a bit strenuous on the eyes. In Zebralette 3 BETA2, that is - I presume the designer has worked in the skin since then? :)

Very curious about the possibilities of the Modal generator. Will it have the possibility to create string sounds similar to the once in Reason Friktion, for instance?

The UI is constantly worked on, the "final grading" will happen once the layout and everything is complete.

I do not know Friktion, so let's not assume that Z3 tries to do the same.

Modal Synthesis in Z3 is an approach that spans multiple modules. You can feed the resonators whatever you want, like, noise or exciter pulses through filters, EQ, ring modulator, distortion... it's not designed to do just plucks, strings, flutes.

The resonator uses something we call "Modal Profiles" which are stored in files, so we can expand the selection, much like wavetables in Hive. They are not strictly user editable, but we consider providing tools later down the road.

The 10 or so profiles we currently polish are not so much based on actual instruments (even if we have a pretty good marimba style profile) but on materials such as wood, glass and metal. We also have the typical "String" and "Tube" found in some competing products, which are basically just profiles based on sawtooth and square wave harmonics.

Sounds promising regarding the UI!

I'm assuming no such thing :)
It seems like your philosophy regarding physical modeling falls in line with your scepticism of implementing a sampler in Zebra, wich I support fully, in that it is not mainly made for simulating 'existing' sounds and instruments but to make new sounds that might not have been heard before. Maybe I'm reading to much into though. Anyways - "Very excite!, as Borat would've said.

It will be possible to get into semi-realistic territory though. I just dabbled a bit for fun with some piano-ish harmonics, but don't have the time to get the hammered aspect right (not sure that's even possible). Sounds a bit like a "strummed" piano (or whatever this sounds like), and is limited to like 3 octaves or so.

Oh wow! That's already quite realistic. Very nice

I haven't missed the release of the CVilization oscillator mode, correct? It's still in internal testing?

Post

Someone is still working on it... turns out, swapping built-in modes for alternative ones is more involved than I had expected, and we need to also test all other modes and functionality.

Post

Maybe add some screenshots of the device for us to dream a bit ? :D

Wow can you include that patch once Z3 is released so I can study it?

How's that coming along? What are you guys thinking when it comes to new Diva features? The filters are already pretty great. Not sure how much room for improvement there is there. It would be cool however to get something. New FX section maybe or some new models etc. Really interested to hear what you guys have in mind. It's my most used synth.

Everyone is still pretty caught up in Z3 development.

We have one dev working on a little vintage unit that has surprising depth. This may be our cue to go for a Diva 1.5 as an intermediate update until we can go for a larger one. The broader vision is about some structural and workflow changes. I won't go into detail, nothing is set in stone.

On a different note, I would like to create faithful recreations of some of the vintage synths in my collection so I can find them a new home. We do not have the time to play them often enough, they deserve to be heard in actual productions. This may have an impact on Diva's future, I'm not sure yet.
