Zebra 3 and Zebra Legacy

As I understand it, if you buy 'Legacy' today, you will not get Z3 free, or at a large discount. That only applies to people who purchased when it was still marketed as Z2. There might be /some/ sort of discount but nothing is decided yet

IIRC, you had to buy Z2 and HZ (before legacy) to get Z3 for free.rmbles wrote: Fri Nov 07, 2025 6:32 pm As I understand it, if you buy 'Legacy' today, you will not get Z3 free, or at a large discount. It is not difficult, and I think we've been transparent about it:
https://u-he.com/news/2022/
"Current Zebra2 owners can use Zebra Legacy and all its content free of charge with their existing license, and will also be eligible for a 30 € upgrade to Zebra3 once it arrives. Current owners of The Dark Zebra will be automatically upgraded to Zebra3 free of charge. As Zebra Legacy is such a bargain, we will not be offering a Zebra3 upgrade path from the new 99 € licenses."
However, we are contemplating a discount during the public beta phase. We are also contemplating to keep this (or a similar) discount available for owners of Zebra Legacy.

Hi Urs, Is this discount then the "exclusive one for owners of Zebra Legacy" you projected in March?Urs wrote: Fri Nov 07, 2025 6:49 pm It is not difficult, and I think we've been transparent about it:

We currently have something between 300 and 500. We hope to extend this to 600 to 800.

I am still too busy fixing bugs and polishing things to make a final decision. I only know we have to make those decisions soon.soundman007 wrote: Mon Nov 10, 2025 6:41 pmHi Urs, Is this discount then the "exclusive one for owners of Zebra Legacy" you projected in March?Urs wrote: Fri Nov 07, 2025 6:49 pm It is not difficult, and I think we've been transparent about it:

But here's the thing:
We originally were against any introductory offer since so many people (tens of thousands of long time Z2 users actually) will get a license instantly, or nearly so. But we need to generate *some* revenue from Zebra 3 beyond 30€ upgrade fees. The whole idea of turning Zebra 2 into Zebra Legacy earlier was surely also motivated by the voices who warned that if we keep giving Zebra 3 away too cheaply, we might experience a financial disaster.
But then I thought that offering some kind of discount to people who bought Zebra Legacy would be a good idea, marketing-wise. Many people ask about it. And while obviously a 99€ investment does not warrant a 200€ discount, I thought that something like 20% off coupon would be in order - it would be *something*.
However, in the meantime, and we're a business just like any other in an economy that has turned very strange and unpredictable... it may have become necessary to not just tap into that user base, and not just with a 20% off coupon. It may be vital to create an incentive to a much wider scope of potential customers.
Hence, we're currently leaning towards an introductory offer to anyone during the public beta phase. And after that, once the frenzy turns into normal, maybe a coupon for those who bought Zebra Legacy. And vice versa.
But right now, we don't even know where we put the final price. We know that 249€ is underselling it for what it is, while 299€ will be tough sell. Numbers in-between sound awkward. But numbers in-between may help sell some licenses during the public beta phase.
We have to feel it out somehow.

You will automatically have a new license in your account. It will be available via My Licenses on our website soon, maybe a week or two before we start public beta.MorpherX wrote: Mon Nov 10, 2025 7:34 pm I have bought Zebra2 and Zebra HZ.
1. Do I need a new serial if Zebra3 comes out ?
It won't be just a serial though, we're switching to license files instead, similar to how Plogue do this. I'll start an extra thread about it before these licenses become available. It's huge step forward to make things even easier than serial numbers.
As of now, the oscillators only have the spline based waveform generation as seen in Zebralette 3.2. Will it be possible to load complete Hive 1.2 and Hive 2 wavetables ?
I currently don't feel that it needs more than that.
(I recommend listening to all these wonderful entries in the One Synth Challenge last month... I mean, all of this is coming out of a single Zebra 3 oscillator. This goes way beyond "wavetable", it is its own thing)
