I feel like you should do something like that for Zebra3. I have 2&HZ but would happily pay a little extra when 3 is out, even though it's technically free. I'm sure others would too.
That is very kind of you.

It won't per necessary though, I'm confident that Zebra 3 will find lots of new friends. I think, many people already having a free upgrade might actually be a very good thing.

I’m excited for the free upgrade haha. I bought Hz partly because I knew that one day Z3 would be coming to me, it’s a pleasant thing to look forward to as a customer (I felt the same way about SynthMaster 3).

Is there a way to (pre) purchase Zebra 3 right now?

Wait till you can try it. Should be less than two weeks, if all goes well.

I just hope it doesn't crash in FL like Zebralette, so I don't cry while watching other ppl having fun with the synth.

Crashes typically happen due to file permission issues or similar. A quick message to our support team usually yields quick relief.

I reported it a while ago actually, they said it was a rare bug.

If it was a bug then I presume it's fixed.

That's what I'm hoping for

Does anyone else find it mildly annoying when Zebra 2 is described as an old plug-in, implying it has remained the same for 19 years? It has regularly received updates over the course of its life!

No.

Pretty sure everyone here loves zebra2. It still gets shout outs by artists in interviews. Everyone knows it’s gotten regular updates. It’s safe to stop clutching your pearls. :D

Post

I wasn't talking about anyone here but the wider sentiment that it's an oldie. It's gotten more updates than many popular plug-ins that came after it!

well, it has been around for a long time. so has prety much every DAW. i don't get where you're getting this sentiment that something that's been around a while is bad. i've read a few interviews in recent years where the artist name drops zebra specifically when asked about software synths.

so, maybe this perception/sentiment is your own or is imagined? either way.. who cares?

the fact that it's been around a long time and still gets lot's of use, mentions, and people asking "is it going on sale?" etc and that there's like multiple 40+ page threads about it sort of speaks volumes about how well respected it is and how good it sounds and what it is capable of.

I think, if there's a perception that Zebra2 is old, it's because that there have been so many recent "super synths" like Diva, Hive, Bazille, with extremely rich and analog sounds. What's come out of the soft-synth world since Zebra2 was introduced has been incredible and u-he themselves have released many fantastic synths that, while they may lack Zebra2's flexibility, certainly make up for it in tone. u-he Diva is the prime example of it.

It doesn't matter however because Zebra3 is coming out soon which is the culmination of everything they've ever done. So it'll be as rich as Diva and as flexible as Z2.

As a very random aside, on that topic, I'd be curious to see recreations of popular patches from Zebra2 in Zebra3 just to hear the raw sound difference. The "Dark Knight" patches from ZebraHZ probably sound even more glorious in Zebra3.

Post

I wasn't trying to make anyone here defensive of Zebra 2. I was commenting with amusement on how Zebra 2 is often discussed as an "oldie" (I recently saw an artist refer to it this way almost apologetically), as if referring to a dusty, untouched software relic from a bygone age, when in truth it has been continuously updated all this time and will continue to receive maintenance updates for the foreseeable future.

It was meant as praise of U-he's support! Zebra Legacy is such a tremendous value that its collection of patches will probably be used in production for many years to come despite the release of Zebra 3.
