LANDR acquires Reason Studios (DAW/Plugin)

And Reason, as a DAW, has felt like it's fallen far behind in recent years, especially now that there are more DAWs on the market than there were with Studio One & Bitwig.

Our user stats for our synth plugins confirm this. Reason is slightly more popular than Bitwig:

No way to actually know, it could be as simple as Landr developers really liked Reason and made an offer.

In terms of Landr, they look like deep pockets, jumping into multiple areas to "corner" a customer in their ecosystem, it's possible Reason has been on their radar for a while, since a DAW is the only missing piece here.

By that logic, anything is possible, of course. Look, honestly, I wouldn't want them to close their doors. But I am not going to pretend this is some good news either, and my ground for that is experience with Reason Studios and their superb "navigation" and release track. Remember the "new" and improved browser. It was so good that they had to reshape it just half a year later.

And I still can not move it to my second screen. Unbelievable.

Anyway, perhaps LANDR has some better steering. We will see, but realistically, one can expect nothing major until the Q3 of this year.

Yes, but this is actually a point for Reason being a terrible DAW.

Reason was released in November 2000. Bitwig was released in 2014. It's a 14-year advantage over Bitwig, and they are worse than the currently completely absurd Cakewalk with their own shenanigans.

That would make sense. It’s an obvious home for the generative tools like Orb: there are already plenty of RE note and CV generators.

Landr Studio is $144.00, Reason is $499 or $20 per month. Maybe this will make Reason more accessible. I guess Warner is on a spending spree because didn't they just buy Suno?

Whoa... they got Reason?? I haven't even been a Reason customer in decades but..
Damn. LANDR is some "AI" slop company if im not mistaken, and this probably spells the end for old Reason. I have a soft spot in my heart for propellerheads Reason, as it was one of my very first music tools along with Rebirth.

I use Cubase as my DAW of choice and it's produced by Steinberg which is part of Yamaha, the likelihood of it going the way of the dodo is very slim and if it does, there are plenty of other options

Private Equity sees this as “market fragmentation.” This is a “problem” which they aim to “solve.” Because who doesn’t want a handful of companies owning and controlling everything?

i see it same. The market will develope sooner or later exactly towards "that".
