DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 7:58 pm As a master of horns you could love the following song, Al is one of the greatest singers of all time for me
He probably had one of the best bands ever with musicians no one knows, that's sad, they play so dope

I did manage to salvage it. Of course the recording quality isn't so great. But this was my tribute to Al Green.

wow, that's cool, only snare about too loud or harsh imo, but doesn't matter. That was your real voice without ai?
Yes, the snare is awful. I knew nothing about EQ, compression or anything back then. We're talking like 30 something years ago. But I knew how to write a song. I just needed to learn all the other stuff.

Yes, that is my voice when I could still sing. Well, somewhat sing. I'm not sure how I would sound singing that song today.

I am glad Al Green was also a big inspiration for you, he was so special and unique, he sang with so much soul

DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 8:06 pm it is unbelievable how good the musicians of Al's band were, the horn section, everything, omg
They were great. You know, this has been a nice little chat. Who'd a thunk it? LOL

Man, I have written so much music in almost 50 years. Sometimes, I don't even believe all the stuff I've done and in just about every genre imaginable.

You'd be surprised how many singers I love that are probably some of your favorites. I tried to tell you, I've listened to a lot of music in my day. Well, back when music was really great. I can't say that about most of the stuff coming out today and that's sad.

When it is about voices, I might already have told you, there are three singers I love more than all others, Sly , Prince and Al.
There are more great singers, of course, but these three give me goosegumps.

All 3 of my favorites. I remember, to this day, the first time I heard this on the Ed Sullivan Show. I was 11. This isn't the 45 version but it's still great.

As for Prince, yeah, he sang a lot of great songs but he was also an amazing song writer.

I know that performance, so awesome.

One of the greatest vocal performances is The beautiful ones from Purple Rain movie for me.
Especially the second part starting at 3:08, also how Prince played the Oberheim.
I can't listen to the second part, cuz whenever I do it touches me way too much, I can't even explain, his performance and singing simply is too good like from a different planet, too much emotion, passion and soul and he even could screan soooooo beautifuly. Imagine he played and recorded every single instrument back then and mixed Linn drum with real drums.
There is no human on planet earth now who could make such a performance.

In the history of "popular" music, there have been a number of unique voices. Prince was one of them. He left us way too soon. David Bowie, another one who left us too soon. Michael Jackson. Now that was a sad story.

Rock and Roll Heaven has got a hell of a band alright.

What I don't understand how is possible that I could listen to The Beautiful Ones and there are more Prince or other songs from back in the day, how could I have listened a 1000 times to The beautiful ones and I can still listen a thousand times to it again and it will still touch me so much each time.
How is it possible?

Several years ago I did an album of covers. When I try to sing like a particular person, I don't do a bad job. This is me doing Jeff Lynne on Can't Get It Out Of My Head

The arrangement is to the note.

I've got a few songs like that too. I don't expect you to listen to this but this is my favorite Renaissance song of all time. Still brings me to tears 50 years later.

I will listen tomorrow. I am too sleepy now.
Btw now you might laugh about me, I often use Xpand2 first when I compose a new song, it gives me a big choice of all kinds of different instruments with good quality and often I would keep the sounds or my Yamaha hardware synths.
