Understood, but what I wundered about in an earlier thread was... if Microsoft wanted to disrupt WINE, they probably could?audiojunkie wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 3:35 amIf "time has proceeded on and it will no longer function" in Windows, then I just run it in WINE on Linux and continue to use the software as if nothing changed.Grizzellda wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 2:51 amjamcat wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 9:02 pm This is why it's foolish as hell to pay for a software subscription.
Politely will disagree here. So what if you think you own the software, but now time has proceeded on and it will no longer function, but hey! You own it! And good for you!![]()

At any rate, WINE is an emulation and I ain't going for it. There is an old saying in life...that if something is worth doing, then it is worth doing well.
That should include writing native apps for Linux.
Also, why the fuss about subscriptions? My position is clear and really simple. It is based on the fact that the software user is a trustworthy person, as also must the software provider be, as well. Then a subscription model should "just work". Just pay up and be current, no fuss!
