I am fascinated by the gear other people use but i don't acquire equipment based on that, especially endorsements.
A few company names irrationally bother or entice me.

Who could sound like Prince? My vocals sometimes are similar, cuz I used to sing a lot of his songs, I probably know 120 or more of his songs by heart, and learned how to sing background vocals from him.vurt wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 9:39 pmand do you sound like prince now?DCrown wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 8:32 pm I remember I bought TC's EMT 250 reverb (and I use it!), mainly cuz Prince used it for example on Purple Rain and Linn Drum by Aly - never used Linn drum, though haha
And I bought more API plugins than SSL or Neve (don't like Neve), not sure whether because Prince worked on an API console at Sunset Sound and later Paisley Park.
Omg, I am just realizing I bought quite a lot because of him, also some different Mesa Boogie plugin amps, I wouldn't call them my fav ones, but sometimes I do use one of them and I had to have Yamaha CP70 plugin.
He used production techniques especially in early years in his bedroom studio in Minneapols that were very different from usual techniques, for example he would add boss pedals to Linn Drum sounds, he recorded analog (tape) driving tape harder than everyone else probably or using tape for vocal effects (his Camille voice) and his vocal range was huge and he would sing and track sometimes lying on the floor.
I am interested in everything about him and there are lots of videos of band members or Sunset Sound studio videos talking about him also the gear that was used, so of course I am interested in everything that is available as plugin that was used by Prince or for Prince productions.
Not everything is for me , as I wrote the Linn Drum is not my cup of tea.
Would like to test a real Warwick Thumb bass and a Hohner Tele one time just out of curiousity.

I have seen the name Hans Zimmer sometimes, Uhe black Diva or Arturia sound expansion and more.
There are often Jean Michel Jarre presets in all kind of synths.
Well, some endorsed plugins are good I think, some plugins are automatically associated with one or more artists,
I would like to see a plugin with Sly Stone e-piano and organ sounds, he would use Yamaha YC organs sometimes, there was often something in his sound that seemed to be out of tune with a special dirt, can't do it with any plugin.
I won't buy IKM's new Sunset Sound, though, the crossgrade price is not acceptable to me, there are limits.
When I want to add some live vibe to a mix, the old Sunset Sound plugin can be a good choice sometimes.
Some devs obviously make new "better" versions of their old good plugins.
Eventide Black Hole
they released Black Hole Immersive
The old one was good, so I was not interested in their new one, they just try to make money twice.

Actually there has been a couple I have been interested: Una Corda and Noire by NI, both are instruments used by Nils Frahm and he was involved in the recording, he is very obsessive with equipment and the Una corda is also a custom design piano so that adds to its appeal.

There are plenty of sample libraries produced as collaborations between developers and composers/musicians.rod_zero wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2026 6:19 am Actually there has been a couple I have been interested: Una Corda and Noire by NI, both are instruments used by Nils Frahm and he was involved in the recording, he is very obsessive with equipment and the Una corda is also a custom design piano so that adds to its appeal.
Spitfire Audio and Orchestral Tools have many and SA alone have around two dozen:
