I've been really enjoying the Classic Digital category with those great rompler sounds. Does anyone have any 3rd party preset recommendations that have that similar kind of vibe to those classic digital synths like the D-50, SC-88, Proteus 2000, etc?

Finally got a chance to work with the Omnisphere 3 update, and I'm impressed.
The MPE update is a complete game changer and works great.
For my Linnstrument and Seaboards, it just so much better than the cobbled faked MPE I used to have to deal with.
The fact that it takes up no more space, yet all the new presets and categories, hooray! Seems to behave without glitching better than v2.
Can't wait to try the hardware profiles on my Argon8m which has a bunch of knobs, and even my Akai APCMkII is in there. Way cool and saves so much time remapping things.
In any case bravo to Spectrasonics, well done and worth every penny.
Despite the crazy way you have to purchase a physical piece of paper in snail mail. Sorry that's just silly in the modern age, should be an instant download especially for updates. That's my only concern so far.
So much exploring to do, and I do think the new category arrangement feels better and easier to find things.

You don't have to do that at all. You can just buy it online and immediately download it. I know because that's exactly what I didDirk Diggler wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2026 2:48 pm .Despite the crazy way you have to purchase a physical piece of paper in snail mail. Why do you think it's silly to do exactly what you wanted to do but didn't have to

Boxed versions in shops are often cheaper than direct from Spectrasonics, that‘s why. I agree it‘s silly, though. And wasteful. Afaik, this was only for the upgrade box. The full version box has a USB stick.

Many places are required to charge additional taxes on "physical" goods and it has been a way for certain governments to get a piece of the action. Even if it is just a card with a serial number that still requires you to download it from the company. So some stores will reduce the price to compensate. Others don't.Bombadil wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2026 5:05 pm Boxed versions in shops are often cheaper than direct from Spectrasonics, that‘s why. I agree it‘s silly, though. And wasteful. In the end, it often comes out almost the same. You have to be savvy to a lot of different outlets and their relationship to particular goverment schemes, as well as store/online policies/deals/requirements. You can get a great deak concerning Spectrasonics. But it takes research and timing of several different aspects. Then you might also consider what your time in doing so is worth.

Yeah. I could‘ve bought the Omni 2 upgrade first, and would‘ve received Omni 3 no extra charge. Omni 2 was 149€ and Omni 3 was 179€. I emailed their support and asked about that, and was told ‚no problem! after you install Omni 2, we‘ll give you the code for Omni 3.‘
I was tempted. What stopped me was my ISP‘s download speed of 1.7 mb/sec.
I wasn‘t going to spend 2 whole days to download everything. A day not monitoring my computer all day was worth 30€ to me.

If people want to buy boxed copies to save money awesome. Why would it be silly for Spectrasonics to offer consumers options? If people want to waste paper that's on themBombadil wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2026 5:05 pm Boxed versions in shops are often cheaper than direct from Spectrasonics, that‘s why. I agree it‘s silly, though. For Spectrasonics to include a USB stick that has files would be especially wasteful as eventually all that will do is be in a landfill

Eventually, everything winds up in a landfill...
And there's even a digital version of that landfill. It's called the Internet. Where everything, no matter how useless, is here.

Yes as mentioned above, if you want any price deal from the MSRP of $199 direct from Spectrasonics, you have to go the physical route. That's how I got mine for $169 @ Sweetwater.
When I purchased v2 they sent an actual usb drive to hold the content.

Just saw Omnisphere 3 is out. Haven’t upgraded yet from v2.
I’m mostly working with orchestral stuff in Cubase these days, so my focus has been on VSL and Spitfire. But I keep hearing Omni is great for hybrid textures under dialogue.
Anyone here using it mainly for orchestral/score work vs. pure sound design? Curious how it sits in a mix with real strings.
New to the forum, so hi everyone.

These days, there's very little that isn't great for that.
And Omni can stick out like a sore thumb due to its compressed processed nature. That can be compensated to a degree of course. And it may already fit nicely with Spitfire. But it can take extra steps to fit. Since you're already using Steinberg, I would suggest staying with their line.
Unless you just want something new and different that can help clear an over-focus. But then again, these days there's little that doesn't do that.
Take a trip to your nearest dealer and run it through its paces. That's the only way to decide if it's something you want/need in your tool box.

I don't think that's true. I think the people that like Omnisphere just appreciate the combination of features that it has with a high quality sample library included. There are many other synths with much more of a cultish following if you ask me. There have been people who have been oddly anti-omnisphere for no apparent reason though. I can understand if it's not some people's cup of tea, but sometimes it's been a bit cultish on the NEVER OMNISPHERE side.BBFG# wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2026 6:44 pm"...keep hearing Omni is great for hybrid textures under dialogue."Francesco Giammusso wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2026 5:55 pm Just saw Omnisphere 3 is out. Supposedly I was the crazy one according to kvr for saying them opening the engine to user samples but handicapping users from applying all the musical use cases was an anti customer philosophy...but yet folks are willing to hack xml to get access to the features that are already there...and they are actually excited about it rather than just admit they believe spectrasonics should do it and make the request...forget fanboyism, that's straight stockholm syndrome lol
Music had a one night stand with sound design.....And the condom broke
