Decided to redo the original post since a lot of the image links were down.

Howdy!

I've been working on a collection of physically-modelled analog plugins: WD Analog Collection
If you want to go straight to the audio demos, here you go!

These aren't curve fits — each one solves its circuit while the audio runs through it, and every module has a rear panel with the service trims the hardware kept inside. Sixteen plugins, free, Windows VST3 + CLAP. Click a faceplate for the full-size shot.

Image
WD Opto — optical tube compressor in the LA-2A bloodline. The photocell has real memory, plus drive and iron knobs the original never gave you.

Image
WD Mu — vari-mu built on a simulated 6386 push-pull pair. No threshold knob; you drive it and it leans back.

Image
WDTec — passive tube EQ, program and mid sections. The filter inductors have live magnetic cores and a knob for how hard you push them.

Image
WD Tape — a full tape machine: record head, bias oscillator, repro head, aligned by the same procedure a tech would use.

Image
WD XQ — one parametric EQ, five circuits underneath, dynamic bands on all of them.

Image
WD FET — the 76 with its actual ratio-button network, so button chords and all-buttons come from the circuit, not a preset. Plus 760, germanium, and clean laws.

Image
WD VCA — stereo bus compressor around one Blackmer-style cell. Console Bus for glue, RMS Punch for drums.

Image
WD Duress — curve-family compressor in the Distressor spirit. Every ratio is its own machine, from 1:1 warm-up distortion to Nuke.

Image
WD Clamp — three compressor slots (Opto/Mu/FET/VCA engines) sharing one power supply. Slam one slot and its neighbors feel it.

Image
WD Pre — five preamps behind one gain knob, from precision wire to a cassette 4-track desk channel.

Image
WD Echo — tape loop echo with a motor and a splice. Turn the rate and the repeats already on the loop bend with the transport. Reads forward, palindrome, or backward.

Image
WD AX — exciter built from the patents: a generated sideband, not an EQ boost, so the fundamental never moves.

Image
WD Strip — preamp into EQ into compressor in one window, a model selector on each stage, all three on one power rail.

Image Image
WD Delta — send/return pair that measures your whole chain's latency and plays you the difference it makes. Works across any plugins, anyone's.

Image
WD Rack — the chassis. Same frame number on your modules and they share a supply: rail sag, slot bleed, reorderable slot map. Skip it and everything runs clean standalone.

How do we know they're accurate? The whole method is written up here: ACCURACY.md — published numbers in, automated bench on every build, all sixteen audited against their hardware's spec sheets.

Free to use on anything, commercial included. Bug reports welcome on the issue tracker — betas move fast.

MISSNG: audio demos
MISSING: video demos
MISSING: compatible platforms
MISSING: installation instructions

I'm interested in your work. Please add to the first post: what format does it run in? is it an audio plugin or an exe ultimately? What platforms is it compatible with? You haven't detailed the amount of inconvenience to the user for setting up this thing. I would walk right past whatever you have going because it basically looks like something I already have used, tried, experienced, nothing new. Whether you have something new or not is yet to be heard. You don't have any audio demos or video demos.

I'm interested in your work, but let's get some basics out of the way first.

You may find it difficult to get interest in your work if the user has to abandon their workspace / DAW / ui / etc.
  • No one likes learning a new UI just to see what something does.
  • No one likes having to download something just to see what something does.
You got some homework to do.

Post

Thank you! First time doing this and I appreciate the feedback. I will work on those things.

"vst3 pack that's Windows only"

Download: WIN VST3

fixed.

Question: Why would I want to use this over what I already have? I am skeptical of the tape module. Why not post some before/after demos of that? Or perhaps ask for beta testers? You've failed to mention beta testers in your first post. Would you like a beta tester? I could provide some feedback.

I refuse to use VST when CLAP is available and doable. Let's get a CLAP build. Do you need help with a CLAP build?

Why is this a git repository and has no source code?

Post

I've used analog filters that literally use bleed as a feature. I could help you implement a killer analog filter module that sounds like the real thing. I could give you the code for that at some point, the only issue right now is the parameter ranges need to be fine tuned, I'm almost ready to do fine tuning on my platform.

Post

I skipped this because of the lack of info and let someone else take the risk and comment if its worth installing

Thanks :-)

Thanks, everyone. Original post is updated with CLAP files and audio demos. Current release has a new common design language for the UI, some bug fixes, and a new compressor that might cause you some distress. Will update images next.

To answer the questions about why would you use any of this, what makes it any different from 100 things we've all tried before: Not a WHOLE lot, really. We give you a little bit more variety and tweakability; for example take a gander at the Opto plugin.

You've already got an LA2A, at least. Why would you use this one? Maybe you wouldn't, but if you want a THD knob, a transformer saturation knob, things like that. There are some more tweaks on the back:

If like your opto compressor then you're good to go. If you don't have one, or you like turning knobs - here you go. Same with all the rest of them.

Here are the rest of the images.

I'm not trying to change the world or sell anybody anything, I just think they sound good, it's cool, and the price is right. :)

Why a git repo with no code? It just seemed like the easiest way to get releases out, honestly.

Either way, I really genuinely appreciate your feedback on the OP.

Your explanations sound good. I'm not your target audience unfortunately. I don't even know if I like audio plugins anymore. I don't know if I like DAWs... I'm so out of the loop of music creation right now.

Hey folks,
I wanted to show you something else real quick.
HERE is an online demo of the 'stressor compressor. You can load your own clip and use a stripped-down version of the interface (with the full processing from the plugin), if you like.

Post

I am now your target audience. Really good work. Umm, but... nuke is not doing it for me. I think it could sound better... maybe it's just the original signal tho, it sounds like a good compressor, but doesn't quite scratch the overdriven itch I have. I bet I could help with DSP in that regard.

edit: ill get you my analog filter code at some point, you can slap it on top of any signal for extra overdrive magic (i can gear the finetune toward that).

Post

Is the tape machine NAB or CCIR?
I don't see an option in the interface to select which standard.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

I just ran thru them all with a live loop with a sort of early 90's House thing. Interesting. Because a lot of the units brought out that sort of sound. There is a something to them that is different. Perhaps they move in ways that eg AdHd Leveling Tool does not (my kinda go-to for heavier work). The thing I noted seemed common to them all so it is like the real sauce is not the controls but something they do, in that hyperbole 'greater than sliced cheese' stuff.

It is nice, but overall not a win for me (and therefore you) as...

Workflow is a bit nasty. They are hard to read. Very AI-chic, low contrast but not easy to see/feel. Combine that with not keeping size on re-open (let alone re-instance). AND they seem to take key commands from the DAW ("space" was flipping the plugin instead of Playing Reason). I am all for plugins taking Ctrl Z - or at least responding to it - but taking common commands is bonkers.

I'd rather see one-two devices that really work nicely than all 47 that flake out like this. So... for now it is a not from me as something is interesting but the tool is not toolworthy as I can't really use them.

Just so you know, this forum is specifically for DSP and development discussions. Since you're announcing an effects bundle, this should be in the Effects forum, where you'll get a more appropriate audience. Ive notified moderators to have it moved.
