Keep in mind, not everyone in the world is aware of all VST developers and what they offer for free. Raw Materials wouldn't have been able to get sfz for distribution, anyhow. Bismark (though I haven't used it yet) offers a more familiar interface than the minimal one used in sfz, as well.

Will *I* stop using sfz? Not likely. But I can see why they'd include an alternative along with Tracktion 2.

Well, SFZ+ and Jeskola would be great bundled with Tracktion. BUT theres this phenomenon called mac users, so all the bundled plug-ins probably have to be cross platform. So no Voxengo, Kjaerhus Audio, RGC, Jeskola, etc.

Speaking about Jeskola, I went to Jeskola.com (their real site is .net) and it has a page with all the jeskola products but they all link to the FL site. Very strange. Imageline must be at war with Jeskola. :-o

Are you being sarcastic?

The JMC vs Jeskola war is so well documented I honestly can't imagine you've missed it.

Perhaps you can find a truly embittered soul to spin the tale for you. Try searching the forums at http://www.buzzmachines.com
It's truly a legendary story (although I don't know of anyone who's written it all down), I just got on the Tracktion wagon after 8 years of buzzing it so this post caught my eye. I've tried many other hosts in the meantime but nothing clicked with me like Buzz until now. Nice work Jules!

From a buzzers perspective who has never really used FL and with no particular ill will towards IL or Oskari...

Oskari creates buzz, a tracker which was and still is and amazing program 7 or 8 years afterwards. He soon starts to work on a much anticipated buzz2, much anticipated because the buzz development and user community is growing at a rapid rate. At some point pre-beta (maybe even alpha) he has a Quantum Fireball drive go down hard never to rise again. On that drive is the only copy of the source code for not only buzz2 but buzz1 as well. Probably a lack of foresight but be honest, we've all done it at one point or another. Oskari receives donations towards an expensive recovery of the data on the drive. No one knows wether the data was extricated or not.....ooooh.
Oskari makes the wonderful (in my opinion) XS-1 sampler and comes out with a new dsp library for sale (possibly based on buzz code, concepts, or at least ideas?) and someone forgets to renew the domain for jeskola.com (Oskari or another trusted friend I think) and the domain falls into the hands of an internet used domain salesman or profiteer if you will (something to do with "Million"somethingorother) who puts the domain on sale for the slight markup of $1000. At this point, aside from the hard drive money Oskari has never received cash of any kind for his work on buzz (as far as I know) and obviously can't shell out that kind of money for a non-revenue generating domain. Image Line, being clever buisness men pick up the domain and offer a deal to Oskari to code a wrapper that would ideally allow FL to load the vast library of effect and instrument plugins coded for buzz. Oskari agreas and delivers (sort of). At this point I'm sure an IL representative will be able to better express their disappointment in the end result of this deal. From the average users perspective it resulted in a bunch of angry interchange, a wrapper that was capable of crashing FL in a rather unfortunate way and a rather unfortunate, humorous hidden message in an FL About screen regarding Oskari. FL owns jeskola.com using it to promote their software and the eventual usable buzzmachine support they were able to put together and Oskari has moved on to jeskola.net.

Not as much detail as I could have gone into but probably more than I should have :help:

Please feel free to add to this tale any substantiated facts, and point out any glaring errors you might see.

To add a bit to the subject about Buzz.

There was a free registration option that you could use.
The only thing you got for it was your name in the donate box of Buzz1.
Unfortunately my donation of 50$ (which was a lot to me back then) came in after the crash, so I dont have my name in there.

There was some frustration amongst the plugin developers in the buzz community, since the plugins developing license has a clausul about having to be free. They (we) felt somewhat cheated by the sell by Oskari to FL so that a commercial software could benefit from the work provided by free.

Oskari was hower entitled to do that as much as he cared or wanted to, it was all in the eula.

But add that with the frustration of the never recoverd hardrive, the never released buzz2 (although jeskola.net states its being developed) and the roumours about how much money was being donated to recover the (in)famous hardrive put him in a bad place in ppls minds.

Undeserved I think, roumours are roumours. and he was entitled to sell the buzzlib as it was his product, and (as far as I know) never promised not to sell it.

He is as great a programmer and visionary as Jules.
Buzz is a wonderful product, and if Buzz2 ever comes out, Ill by or donate to it faster then you can say RAW Material Software.

This will however not stop me from loving Tracktion, they are alike, but two different ladies altogether

Lunch Money quoth But I can see why they'd include an alternative along with Tracktion 2.

And they may not have been able to/wanted to bundle sfz+ since Rene had hooked up with Cakewalk....
