OK.

Maybe some kind of sorting and/or rating ha to be done at some point.

Ingo
Sorting and rating sounds better, and keeps everything on the list. I'm for that. :-) Thanks!

It was a good idea because there are countless 303 emulations, but there is not enough volume of any other emulation besides the other x0x machines for it to be worth the time. There are at least 4 different 808 and 909 emulators on the market.

I'll soon try to create a list with only the plugin names in the OP and people could add their rating (i propose from 0 to 5 stars) for each one or just those they have used.

Alright, giving it a go even though i'm not able to tell how they compare to the real deal, and not having used a whole lot.

Synths:
- U-He Diva 5/5
- TAL U-NO-LX 5/5
- TAL U-NO-62 4/5
- Elektrostudio Sixth Month June 2/5
- Martin Lüders PG8X 4/5
- TAL BassLine (freeware) 3/5
- Muon Tau Bassline MkII 1/5
- Venom VB-303 5/5
- Propellerhead Rebirth RB-338 4/5 (fun factor, quite aged by now, hence not the closest emulation by now probably)
- Superwave P8 (freeware) 2/5

Drum machines:
- Tactile Sounds TS-808 3/5

Effects:
- TAL Chorus-LX 5/5

No problem. I guess doing a rating compared to the real thing will be impossible for most people.
Anyway if enough people with knowledge about the real thing will vote the result will become more or less correct.

For some synths i added links to audio demos of the real thing (mostly from Synthmania).

I'll try to do my own votes soon and wait for some more before i do an analysis of the results.

I could also try to include the KVR ranking to the result where it is available.
Example:
Arturia Jupiter 8V gets a rating of 8.0 which would translate to 4/5:
http://www.kvraudio.com/product/jupiter-8v-by-arturia
Diva would result in 5/5 then:
http://www.kvraudio.com/product/diva-by-u-he
Problem with Diva is that it includes multiple synths which makes it almost impossible to use this for each single included synth.

has there ever been an emulation of the RE-501 or RE-301 Chorus Echo?

Good question. I have only seen a RE-201 emulation yet (see the list).

or this:

Jupiter 8V Mellow Strings 3
That pad sound in that video is very beautiful. This is a modified version of the "Mellow Strings" factory sound. My earlier attempts seemed to be too close to the original sound and/or too bright.

This one seems to be better:
Jupiter 8V Mellow Strings 2 + Chorus-LX

The TAL Chorus-LX was added with this (Chorus mode I, moderate amount).

A screenshot of the patch and the Chorus settings:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/532 ... s-LX_1.png

The Jupiter 8 seems to have a kind of "natural Chorus" or "natural stereo spread" that makes the sound special and difficult to be emulated. With some Chorus like in this example the result seems to get closer to that.

This patch looks simple at the first look but it seems to be difficult t replicate with other synths. Both the PWM and the filter seem to be quite unique. To that the "broad" sound already mentioned is added.
The "all Arturia synths sound the same" thing is BS in my opinion.

I guess that tuning tripods for each voice like in e.g. OP-X Pro would be helpful for this.

In the list are 4 other TB-303 emulations for iOS. For TB-303 there seem to be by far the most emulations, also as hardware clones.

I got D-16 Phoscyon, the free Venom VB-303, TB patches + waveforms in RAyblaster and the Acid filter in Diversion which currently is enough TeeBee for me.

Hi,

i started doing some tracks/demos that only use Roland synth emulations and also Roland FXs were possible.

The first track of that kind is based on TAL BassLine-101, Xils Lab V+, Arturia Jupiter 8V 2.5 and Pink Noise Studio Deeplight for Kontakt (length 9:45, Lead sound starts at around 1:50):

Journey To The Land Of Ro - Part I

The track is recorded "Live" which means no overdub and also no further editing afterwards.

Details about the instances and additional FXs:

1.) Lead:
TAL BassLine-101 (= SH-101), patch: "BR Horny 101 IW" (included with my free collection)

external FXs: TAL Chorus LX (mode I), TAL Dub-3 Delay, Valhalla DSP ValhallaVintageVerb

2.) Pad 1:
Xils Lab V+ (= VP-330), patch: "STR Slow Strings IW".
external FXs: Arts Acoustic Big Rock Phase Shifter (= Small Stone Phaser emulation)

3.) Pad 2:
Arturia Jupiter 8V 2.5, patch: "Mellow Strings 2 IW" (same as in a few posts above).
external FXs: TAL Chorus-LX (mode I, moderate amount)

4.) Pads 3 + 4
Pink Noise Studio Deepflight for Kontakt (= D-50) in Kontakt 4,
patches/presets: "DF Fantasia" + "DF Arctic Vox Pad".
No external FXs used.

No additional mastering FXs (e.g. Compressor etc.) used.

Hey Ingo - a big thanks for doing this. Great list. As always I look for some JD800 emulation - weirdly enough since I'm not a big fan of ROMplers! :hihi: But I have some fond memories of the JD.

Again - thanks for your effort! And it also reminds me of bumping Audio Realism for an update of ABL Pro.
