Oh - I certainly wasn't "sighing" at you :)

I was expressing frustration that it had to be posted in the first place.

ttoz, when you say you don't want a battle of charities i was wondering about the specifics.

just so we're clear - do you object to my list of other ways you can also help artists and developers either with or without donating time or money? do you want to focus on the single aim of collecting donations to buy specific software, or are you open to the idea of promoting community in general to help all those involved?
Free plug-ins for Windows, MacOS and Linux. Xhip Synthesizer v8.0 and Xhip Effects Bundle v6.7.

I honestly don't have time to read 12 pages of posts, but I'd like to express my opinion; I simply find it difficult to believe that a talented person cannot get fairly decent (to say the least) results using a low cost DAW like REAPER, MuLab, Podium and so on and a clever selection of the humongous freeware synths and FX available out there.

I mean, I think that one of the most important reasons warez is so spread around is that commercial plugins are believed to be so superior to some freeware or cheapware you can get. In my humble experience, it's not always the case.

Variety of Sound, GVST, Reaplugins, Kjaerhus Classis Series, Melda Production, Native Instruments Players, HGF, Krakli, Ugo, Camel Audio.
First springing out of my mind, all of them much more than pretty decent (imo!)

About cheapware: ToneBoosters to say just one.

Do you need so much else, really, to let your talent come out and be expressed?

Not meaning to turn this thread to freeware listings, but the gist is I don't really see so much need (maybe, hardware is another matter, but we're talking about software right?).

I hope you get this the right way ttoz, your is a very appreciable initiative, just thinking loud about it (I WAS a warez user, I use some commercial stuff but still stay tied to the above freeware).

Thank you,
Mario

copyright violation is rampant in these countries for a reason. it costs them nothing, it costs you nothing, and they receive a huge benefit.

explain to me how you can afford what you afford while demanding these sorts of people owe you?
For the truly poor that you describe, I think software (free or otherwise) is a long way down on the list of priorities for basic survival. In that case, frankly, the LAST thing I would like to contribute is software. I would rather (and do, like many here) give a more meaningful contribution to ensure sustenance.

Well then please do. I am giving software to people that can basically survive, but can not afford to make music.

That's MY program and whoever want to jump on board. You do yours.
Is there anything set up yet in terms of where one can actually donate money to this cause?

I don't know about this post cause I can't read and understand some havey english. so, I don't know what are yours talking about not at all.

But, I saw about HOST.. cubase... I can't understand.. Why cubase is point? You can think cubase is must host.. But, I don't think so... If you try hard and long time... you can find good host and free..

I have 10 years tour about free tools. I tested a lot of vstis. I am sure I will one who got Xoxos's early drum synths. and I tried many years to find good free samplers.. I spend so many time to find samplers fit to me.. I can't tell about my big free list :D but, I can tell It is your job too. :( Because many people got a diffrent thought about sound and vstis...

But I can say about host.. I don't like cubase.. They didn't suport FXP.. I don't like that sound too... Aodix has much better sound than cubase. and This is free.. So, I think don't need help to cubse, high prise tool that think he is king himself. And, I don't like Kontakt too..

Frees aren't Best.. But, Famous tools aren't Best too!! And there is many diffrent thought as they make diffrent mssic..

If you don't like it, think i am a bad person for planning to give money to budding musicians rather than some other charity of YOUR choice, then say it somewhere else, or i am having this topic locked.
Do as you please, but I'm not interested in taking part in a "discussion" that runs under the requirement to "agree with me or shut up".

Why you think Reaper is not "worthy" to be a possible give away in such a charity is beyond me. It's probably a mix between your personal preference and the flaw of the whole idea to solve first world problems ("argh, I can't afford my bling-bling").

Good luck with your project. As I said it's great that you care.
